I have been working at Norfolk County Council for more than 3 years

    Pros

County hall a good physical environment

    Cons

Directors and Managers lack skills, competence and insight into best practice in managing people. The culture mostly limited to surveillance of staff and transactional processes. The lack of priority placed on staff and being skilled in how to retain skills, how to develop best talent, how to mitigate low-level, insidious hidden forms of bullying.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Norfolk County Council full-time for less than a year

    Pros

nice colleagues, nice building, fair wage for what the role was. Always possible to find cake.

    Cons

Constant monitoring made this a negative place to work - having to ask permission to go to the toilet and this being timed etc. Humiliating and felt like being back at school, zero trust in employees fostered zero trust in the employer. felt like working for a neoliberal corporation rather than a service for citizens - every minute of your working day had to be accounted for and maximised, felt like being a machine.
