I worked at North Highland full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company has quite a few thought leaders that people can learn from. They have done a good job thinking through career paths to promote longevity within the company that don't involve being a master salesman. They also invest time and money into CPE-type training. They treat you like a professional and allow flexible work arrangements and there isn't a 100% travel requirement that you typically find in consulting firms.

    Cons

The diversity of the client base was surprisingly low given that the market I worked in was one of their top grossing in terms of revenue. The company has a strategy-based presence, but it's very exclusive and small. The opportunities to see different types of workflows beyond change management and program management are very limited. Lastly, because the company doesn't do anything unique, they are always subject to price pressure and saturated competition.

I have been working at North Highland full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people I've met at this company have become such a solid community for me - incredibly welcoming, driven, collaborative, and curious. The firm's response to COVID and the economic downturn was among the best I've seen - major transparency into decision making, regular updates, and compassionate thinking coupled with realistic messaging all the way from the very top down. The firm truly works hard to deliver excellent consulting and the best thinking to our clients.

    Cons

As with many workplaces, the company struggles with layers of bureaucracy and a "go slow to go fast" mentality that sometimes translates into too many checkpoints to get something meaningful moving. There isn't a ton of transparency when it comes to salaries, advancement, or decision making on either, and I believe the company struggles to accurately level consultants. The firm is currently pursuing a new strategic direction, which is great, but not without its growing pains and the communication around this could be more clear.

I worked at North Highland full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There are still great people working there.

    Cons

The culture has deteriorated as the focus has moved from growth to cost control. The influence of US management in the UK has been unpleasant. Recently cleared out a lot of the 'old guard' who were guardians of the culture.
