I worked at Norwegian Air Shuttle full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people. The people you work with are, for the most part, friendly, nice, and helpful. The destinations. This is all international flying so you get to layover in some of the greatest cities in Europe. Cheap Travel. The travel benefits are decent but nowhere near as good as other airlines. The AC. You're only flying the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which is a brilliant aircraft. Very crew friendly.

    Cons

The pay is abysmal. The American (JFK, FLL, LAX) based FA's wage is the lowest in the industry. After about five years, I had to declare bankruptcy. Unless you have a trust fund or are incredibly frugal the pittance, you get paid won't cover all the expenses that go with living in one of their US base cities. They're negotiating a union contract, so hopefully, that might change for the better. You have zero scheduling flexibility. The roster you get is what you get. Management makes it very difficult to swap trips. You get the privilege of requesting when four of your eight monthly days off are. Just four though, they do what they want with the rest. The days you aren't off, or on a trip, you are on standby. Standby is 6-8 hours a day, sometimes 5-10 days in a row. Therefore its almost impossible to have a second job as you never know when you are going to be needed to fly. Also, there is no such thing as pay protection. Therefore, if management decides to give the JFK-Amsterdam service (which is a seven day a week service) to London crew, at the last minute, for a month due to a plane being grounded for mechanical, if you happened to have a month of nothing but turns to AMS, your roster is taken away and rep;aced with standby days which, once again, are not compensated. You have no choice but to settle for the $1500 for the month and hope they bless you with a turn or something. It's disgusting.

    Advice to Management

Pay your cabin crew more if you want better performance. And instead of firing the people that do a great job despite the awful pay and benefits, you should be cultivating them. There are so many people with numerous passenger complaints, incident reports, and HR meetings their flies are as thick as a magazine and yet they are kept on!? It makes no sense.

I have been working at Norwegian Air Shuttle full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You get to fly internationally from the beginning

    Cons

Health insurance is 166 per month, the rostering system is terrible, OCC is horrible you have to call them all the time to fix things on your roster in addition to them sending you wherever they see fit, no control of schedule, no jump seat agreement Calls made from cell phone abroad are not covered and one does this all the time Hotels suck, they practically us in the middle of no where by airports usually far from the city or anywhere to purchase food No union either ;in case you’re into them the company hates unions) No retirement plan matching There is no employee handbook for USA cabin crew Friends and family flights pretty much non existent

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Norwegian Air Shuttle full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Friendly working environment. No nonsense approach, very Scandinavian. A fast growing company with plenty of opportunities for promotion and career development.

    Cons

As the company is growing and the balance of staffing vs number of operating aircrafts available is currently resulting in large number of stand by days in rosters. Flight allowances are paid a month in rears, which is making financial planning difficult.

    Advice to Management

It would help if daily allowances were allocated and paid to crew on a day rather than monthly. Further though during continuous expansion is required to alleviate the problem of large number stand by`s and non flying, which is affecting level of monthly salaries.
