I have been working at Ocean Spray full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Most of the HQ building is renovated and beautiful, beautiful grounds to match. Good benefits - 401k match, FSA, family leave, medical/dental/vision (20/20 On Site bus), on site gym/fitness classes. On-site cafeteria. Most colleagues are good people and hard workers. Flexible work schedules/work from home/work life balance.

    Cons

Revolving door of leadership - interim CEO left (after a month maybe?), making it the third CEO now in two years who has departed for one reason or another. Also on the third CFO in two years. Career opportunities are completely dependent on the department you're in. The amount of institutional knowledge that has walked out the door over the past two years, voluntarily or involuntarily, is immeasurable. IT and Finance outsourced and senior leadership is either clueless and/or lacks candor when they say during town halls that the transition is going great or that there are only a few hiccups. Obviously the plan wasn't thought through well enough because people are still around after being told they were being laid off 9 months ago, hard to imagine there is any financial benefit being realized for all the cuts. Talk to employees doing the work and dealing with IT day in and day out and they will tell you otherwise. Expect to be asked how to resolve your own IT issues because the outsourced team has no idea, and the outsourcing and cuts went so deep there is nobody physically around to help out with emergent issues when needed. Finance is bare bones, a ghost town due to the layoffs/outsourcing. Even the few retained employees are leaving and running for the hills now. Who is left to do the work and make decisions? The building is noticeably vacant . When employees question future plans for the building, they are met with snickers or vague responses. It's somewhat depressing to come in and see all the empty desks and darkness. Senior management and the board seem oblivious, or maybe willfully ignorant, to how the culture and environment has changed. What was once an amazing place to work now feels uncomfortable, and colleagues feel unappreciated, overworked and undervalued.

    Pros

Beautiful Lakeville campus Half day Fridays in the summer ( at corporate) Good benefits

    Cons

Poor communication - every meeting talks about open and honest communication but that never truly happens. Bad low level management - bad lower level management and when you go to HR about the issues you get no where. No advancements - as much as upper management and HR talk about all of the amazing opportunity to advance your career, it never happens, if you do not have an MBA you will go no where and be in a dead end job.

    Ocean Spray Response

Thank you for sharing your view. It can be hard when folks, especially in a supervisory position, are not fully engaged in a company’s transformation—culturally we are working to change that and appreciate your honesty. Communication is not just “for show.” It is a foundational element of how we operate: with honesty, with transparency and with many opportunities to have dialogue with each other and with leadership—forums, engagement surveys, department meetings, technology advancements and more. Staying connected and engaged is how we stay on strategy and on a successful path. Success also takes talent—creating “bench strength” is a must for any company, and a top priority for Ocean Spray that we achieve through a variety of career development programs and opportunities.

I have been working at Ocean Spray full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I have worked at Ocean Spray since 2007. I was hired as an hourly employee, promoted to Operations Supervisor in 2007, worked within supply chain as Supply Planner and Supply Chain Manager, and am currently working as Production Manager. Ocean Spray has been a great company to work for, good pay, good benefits but the best thing has been the people I get to work with every day. We have some very talented people at all levels of the organization and without them the company would not be very successful. Most of my peers care deeply about what we do for our Grower-Owners. We take the job very seriously and feel connected with our cranberry farmers. "We Grow Cranberries"

    Cons

If you are not willing or able to relocate you may feel that you do not have a lot of opportunities to advance your career. To some extent I have found this to be true but if you are patient and continue to perform at a high level the opportunities do eventually seem to come even for my remote plant location.

I have been working at Ocean Spray full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people at Ocean Spray have been working there for a long time. Nice people that are closely nit. Good benefits as well. HQ also did an overhaul of the building and modernized it.

    Cons

While it has a good culture, it is also a little bit stuffy. Very hierarchical and structured with business casual dress code.

I worked at Ocean Spray full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

If you do everything exactly the way you're told to and do not have a differing opinion, then you are treated somewhat decently. Benefits are good, but offset with a lower salary than most companies.

    Cons

If you are energetic and eager to learn, go somewhere else. You can't speak your mind, especially if it goes against what your supervisor thinks, even if it adds value to a discussion. People who perform poorly and are lazy are not punished if they are friendly with their supervisor or manager. You are treated worse than those who cause issues if you have an opinion and speak your mind. You are given work that is below your experience level and made to feel that you are lesser than you're worth. If you attempt to work on projects that fall even slightly outside of your job description, you are reprimanded. I was told directly by my manager that I was capable of work higher than my level, but that "it would be inappropriate" for me to do such work since it did not fall within my job description.
