Provides great hands on experience. Can be a fun and interesting job when working with the right people.

      Cons

Company family aspect is gone and advancement in career is not achievable. Upper management keeps around terrible employees because they have been there long or they are friends.

Management: This is not the military!

      Pros

The engineering department has good management and all of the engineers are great. Everyone gets along for the most part. There are opportunities to travel to cool locations.

      Cons

There are some very smart people that work here, but unfortunately they are overshadowed by the lack of senior leadership in the Chesapeake division. Almost all upper management is comprised of previous Navy captains and admirals, so they run the company like the military. Very few of them have any real business savviness or management skills unfortunately. No one knows how to properly bid a project, manage it's budget, or create a basic/realistic schedule. This creates a lot of stress for the people actually doing the work. It is embarrassing how clueless some of the managers actually are. Engineers end up doing everyone else's job it seems.

      Big company, big issues

      Pros

San Diego, CA, software development team, gets lots of perks. Lots of free food, nice kitchen, good office space, though they've had a break-in, managers accommodating, deadline pressure seems low,.

      Cons

Upper management is far away in Houston. Even formerly-local top manager has moved to the East Coast, leaving lower level managers in charge. Some employees worried about job cuts, some layoffs already as company has lost key development work.

      Pros

      Low interference from upper management

      Cons

Upper management doesn't care about its employees in the slightest. Lower pay than industry standard. Won't promote from within.

      Avoid this "Boys Club"

      Pros

Middle management works very hard and is committed to the success of the company. There are a lot great people there.

      Cons

Upper management behaves in a tyrannical manner. They choose to replace intelligent employees with incompetent ones (while having the former employee tutor their replacement) just to save a bit of money during the downturn of the oil and gas industry. HR is useless. Upper management uses intimidation to control its employees. There have not been any bonuses or pay raises in years.

      Project Manager

      Pros

Oceaneering Space Systems is a small division of Oceaneering International, so you get the benefits of a large company but within a smaller community that works directly with NASA.

      Cons

They are becoming overburned with HR processes, and it is grating on the employee to Management relationship. From what I hear for the oil side of our business within Houston, it seems that most of the upper management seems to be clueless about what it takes to complete tasks for the folks that have boots on the ground.

      Pros

Diverse company, great people culture. Lots of opportunity to work on different projects and never get bored. Many hard working people who really get things done.

      Cons

Not faring too well during downturn in oil gas business, upper management losing sight of employees that matter. Low morale.
