Pros
I have spent 7 years so far in ONGC and will be leaving soon. I have simple review of my experience: ONGC is a great place for folks who are just happy to land a govt. service. Everyone gets paid equally irrespective of performance, and no one ever gets fired for underperforming or not performing at all. So, in a way, ONGC is a heaven for those who want to retire at the age of 30.
Cons
Company pays you well enough to keep your mouth shut, but at the same time, if you dream of bigger things. Look elsewhere. Horses and donkeys are paid the same, given the same, and kept in the same shed. It won't matter if you are a prolific worker or a lazy-ass blood sucker. You will be "equals". This tends to wear down the ones who really want the company to succeed and reach newer heights. There are good people in the company, but the proportion of lazy ones just overshadows the hardworking folks by a "margin".

Pros
Takes good care of employees. Tons of benefits. Petrol allowance, white goods, mobile, laptop, housing loan, education loan, broadband, briefcase, the list of additional benefits is endless. Unmatchable medical benefits.
Cons
HR is so pathetic I can't describe it in words. So, moving on to other cons: 1. In my opinion, zero focus on employee development. 2. monotonous and very rigid work culture, but that's because it is public sector. 3. No reward for motivated work. Non-performers will almost always receive what a high-performer would receive. There is time-bound promotion for first 13 years, so everyone would get the same pay, packages , and designation regardless of their performance. 4. I am pretty sure appointments to top positions are not merit driven. The whole process of appointment to higher position is a big sham. 5. Labour issues. Officers are not given enough control over labour but they are held accountable. So it is upto your personal relational skills to get the job done. To make it worse, in many situations, staff earn monthly overtime exceeding monthly salary of executives.
