I worked at Optus for less than a year

    Pros

The Optus hub has lots of amazing facilities for staff and guests including cafes, restaurants, a bar and more.

    Cons

Poor senior management and lack of communication between the 'ranks' at Optus. Also received minimal training for the role.

I have been working at Optus part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The team that you work with are really good, you build strong relationships with each other because of the craziness you go through. The store managers are also really supportive and will help you with sales strategies and training. You get $80 credit off your bill and 25% discount off each service that you have with optus.

    Cons

Some of the customers have the worst attitudes but you have to suck it up if they're not blowing it out of proportion. You only ask for a manager to take over if you can't handle it. External senior management, so area manager and state etc. they put a lot of pressure on the store to do well but they just push pressure, there's no incentive to do well. The commission is laughable. Eventually there's just so much pressure that you kind of hate going to work. The opportunity to move up is really restricted because of the area manager's 'criteria'.

I worked at Optus full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Apart from the obvious such as generous parental leave, childcare centre downstairs, major discounts to phone plans and NBN plans, gigantic campus with cafes and many facilities, people I worked with were generally smart, diligent and passionate. Company does attract intelligent employees. CEO Allen Liew does try hard and is well liked.

    Cons

Company is cost cutting and yearly restructures are not uncommon. Many smart people have lost jobs, leaving people behind swamped with extra work and low morale. Senior management sometimes doesnt communicate very well to staff esp major announcements and doesnt understand why employee engagement score is so low and doesnt do that much to improve it. Optus is getting more political in recent days, good old days have kinda gone

I have been working at Optus full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great people in the main and a good place overall

    Cons

Poor management with no idea how to improve a toxic culture hamstrung by offshore decisions who do not understand Australian business. Senior Management only care about themselves and their individual brand not the company. Poor decisions with no strategy except bottom line.

I worked at Optus full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Remuneration and staff discount are reasonable Good opporti

    Cons

Senior management seem to lack the experience and education required to make sound decisions when they have the most impact. Technical sales staff are all but phased out, so solutions have become boiler-plate, buzzword filled brochures with no substance. Organisational change management is non-existent outside the main office Annual redundancy rounds driven by the parent company are based on a flawed methodology and have left insufficient resources to deliver projects and services which bring in revenue, leading to over worked staff and low morale
