I worked at Oshkosh Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

When the defense department is growing this can be a good place with great opportunities to advance and grow your career/resume.

    Cons

When war is not on the horizon or the defense is cutting cash, they get hit both salaried and direct production employees

    Advice to Management

Make sure that employees joining the company realize the implications of what the DoD and war time can mean for employees before hiring in.

I have been working at Oshkosh Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with at a company that really makes a difference in many lives.

    Cons

One of the main challenges I have experienced is that like many companies advancement is slower and when advancement happens raises are uncompetitive with what an outside candidate would receive. Negotiation during internal offers is not tolerated.

    Advice to Management

Eliminate rules that dictate how much an employee can advance when changing positions and make offers to internal candidates competitive with what an external candidate would be offered. Be willing to negotiate on the terms of an internal job offer.

    Pros

Compared to many other corporate environments, Oshkosh has a very down-to-earth structure, and is alright spending money where it's reasonably needed.

    Cons

Unfortunately many of the Oshkosh locations are in relatively remote towns with little in the way of fun for interns.

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing what you're doing - it's working quite well. I was presently surprised with how beneficial my time with Oshkosh was.

    Pros

This company offers you the growth and potential to grow and learn the skills to succeed.

    Cons

This company has no offerings to grow further with trainings.

    Advice to Management

If you want to gain knowledge and experience in the management field this is a great company to start with. If you want to advance in a company this is in not a company to look at.

    Pros

Excellent growth strategy. Plenty of opportunities to grow professionally. Management has provided the tools necessary to create a culture that is focused on process improvement. Generally management seems to care about their employees and does a good job of communicating to their employees.

    Cons

Everyone from outside of Wisconsin thinks you work for the Oshkosh B'gosh clothing company when you tell them where you work. Being located in Oshkosh, WI.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in the employees. Be better at building personal relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.

    Pros

Good pay for both salary and hourly personnel. The benefits package does cover the basics, but the insurance leaves much to be desired when it comes to deductibles.

    Cons

The company preaches that "Work-Life Balance" is to be enjoyed by all of its employees. However, overtime is excessive and often mandatory. While hourly employees are paid for overtime hours, salary personnel are not compensated.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your people, especially at the Team Coordinator level. Pushing your frontline supervisors, Team Coordinators, in excess of 55 uncompensated hours week after week after week is not only uncaring but beyond abusive.

Great pay and good work life balance. Company shut down during December.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Management are great but also need to have more open commutation to their employees.
