I have been working at PENFED Credit Union full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Very reasonable and sustainable workload expectations, organization hires adequate level of staff for each function, plenty of learning/career growth opportunities.

    Cons

Could be better at proactively communicating timelines/expectations, and organization could gain from opening up to more flexible work options.

    Advice to Management

Keep moving in the direction you've been heading the last few years, continue to hire great people and let them do a great job.

I have been working at PENFED Credit Union full-time for more than a year

    Pros

PenFed has an amazing culture that energizes and encourages employees, and contributes to the community through their foundation and volunteer events. The consistent growth makes for many advancement opportunities, and offers actual work/life balance especially when compared to big 4 or other accounting firms.

    Cons

PTO seems lower and accrues slower compared to other employers

I have been working at PENFED Credit Union full-time

    Pros

PenFed is a great place to work and a vastly different employment experience than most organizations in the area. PenFed will give you the tools and leadership to grow your skills and advance your career if you are willing to learn and take on new challenges. The best part is PenFed will recognize/reward you for your accomplishments which helps with overall morale and motivation.

    Cons

There is some level of disorganization, plans change at the drop of a dime and you're expected to quickly adapt and move on. Departments don't communicate with one another and employee are frequently playing catch up.

    Advice to Management

Leadership should all be on the same page and working with one another toward common goals. Far too often departments are conflicting with one another because they didn't know about things coming down the pipeline then it becomes a game of hot potato on who is holding up a project. Invest in your human capital. Consultants are great for short term engagements but if you're keeping them on for years another employee...

    Pros

Accommodating time off, competitive salary and benefits, fairly peaceful environment

    Cons

Not many to be honest, some employees are somewhat lazy but that's more of a personal thing in my opinion

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at PENFED Credit Union full-time for more than a year

    Pros

PenFed really goes out of its way to care for its employees, and you do get a sense of community there. I would say the training prepares you about as much as it can for the amount of knowledge you need.

    Cons

The stats that are set for 12 mo+ are difficult to reach and getting harder. They are willing to work with you on this, though, if they see that you are trying very hard to meet goals. The benefits are expensive as well.

I have been working at PENFED Credit Union full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The work week is 37.5 hours.

    Cons

Where to begin?...this is a very small company that is usually understaffed with a large workload. Your opinion means nothing as only the top 3 managers make every single decision. You have to accrue PTO before you can use it. It’s a negative atmosphere. I tried to like it and make a positive change but it’s very difficult.

    Advice to Management

The difference between good and bad management is that good management makes everyone feel like they’re valued and part of the team rather than barking orders. Do you really value what your employees think?
