I'll make sure your feedback is passed on to relevant departments regarding there not being enough hours available for the shop colleagues as this is certainly an area we'd always like to improve on. Pros

Job security, friends you make, choice of products, the pets.

Hello. Thank you for your review. I'm really sorry to hear that your store has been struggling with being short staffed, this is absolutely not what we want for any of our colleagues and I totally appreciate how stressful it must be. If you're still struggling with this, then I'd recommend having a discussion with your manager to see what the best action is to take. I hope you do get some of your issues resolved soon, and thank you again for your feedback. Lorna.

Hi, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. We're really grateful of your comments regarding the benefits such as colleague discount and holidays, although it's certainly disheartening to hear that you've not been happy with your shifts. If you feel comfortable to do so, then I'd recommend having a chat with your manager about this, as they might be able to help in some way. Thank you again for your feedback. Lorna.

I have been working at Pets at Home full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good perks, great teams, great animal care, always changing for the better, you get to see customers' puppies every single day!

    Cons

Management in stores is changed too often and usually at the word of the area manager, no choice from the person themselves or the store manager of the store it affects.

I worked at Pets at Home full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great benefits, semi good salary, if you had a good team the job was fantastic, great training opportunities.

    Cons

No support if anything went wrong, they break their first value everyday, no empathy or regard for anyone's life, very long hours sometime 14 hours days, sometimes rush their training just to fill a space.

I worked at Pets at Home full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Charity work, working with animals

    Cons

Area manager is new on a total power trip and is a bully, on many occasions she discussed "getting rid" of colleagues she didn't take to. You are expected to work 14hour shifts if you have a visit without a please or thank you, staff are expected to deal with animals stuck in quarantine rooms with zoonotic diseases and give treatment without proper training, a constant train of guinea pigs and coming in with ringworm and hamester with wet tail not to mention the rest. Constantly called in on days off to help because they are so under staffed or other members of staff are constantly phoning in sick because it's such a thought to work in the environment. The more you progress the worse it gets. The values are a joke none of them are met

I worked at Pets at Home full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good pay, great overall package. Which comes at a price. Chance to meet and great lots of dogs. Vet on site at most store

    Cons

The area managers have a reputation for bullying and managers are left with a constant fear for their jobs. As a manager there is very little work life balance. A manager is unable to manage due to an ever increasing workload. The area managers look no further than store managers for development and only consider staff who are prepared to work ridiculously long hours before promoting them.

I have been working at Pets at Home full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Every day is different. A happy environment where your colleagues are friends and you are taught so much about products and encouraged to spend time talking to the customers and sharing helpful advice.

    Cons

Retail is a tough business to work in with late nights and weekends, bank holidays and 365 days a year animal care but it goes with the job. Training is intense but knowledge is power and the more we learn the more we can help.

I worked at Pets at Home full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

What was good about the job was meeting our customers with their pets, giving out advice so that the pets stayed healthy and the owners educated in good care of their pets, working with good pet loving colleauges who really care about the pets.

    Cons

Very lazy Store Managers and uneducated Area Managers, very heavy lifting with regards to deliveries and also carrying large items out to peoples car, all the colleagues and managers were always suffering with muscle and joints problems. In the few different stores I worked in none of them adhered to the working time directive many a time I worked until 8.30pm and was expected to open back up at 6am in the morning, also managers were not paid for their breaks but were expected to stay on the premises and be on call so Pets at Home were getting 1 1/2 hours extra at least every day from their managers. Area managers and managers were very secretive and underhand. Pets before profit is an absolute joke this just does not happen (how can you be budgeted on vet bills) if a pet is ill it needs to go to the vets no matter what the cost
