I worked at Pfizer full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - Higher than average compensation - Amazing benefits - Good opportunities to grow with the company (if you are in New Jersey)

    Cons

    - Very little job security due to reorganizations every year or two / possible sale of the Division, etc. - Pockets of talented people, however it is not consistent across the org. - Rudderless ship; new strategies every other year with little / no progress to show for it. - Poor training organization (Pfizer, not just Consumer Healthcare)

    Advice to Management

Like most big companies, the stock price appears drives all decisions (both long & short term). Pfizer could be the perfect place to work if management would stick to a strategy & work to solidify the organization & culture behind it.

I worked at Pfizer full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I can’t think of anything. Perhaps good work life balance

    Cons

Not a happy organization to work. Most of the scientists are sad, unhappy and depressed. It’s the most political and divisive science organization that I’ve worked. Worse place for a PhD in organic/chemistry to work. The research is basic and project managers manipulate data and mislead their superiors. If you are looking for a medicinal chemistry position, don’t go to Pfizer. They have a design - synthesis split...

    Advice to Management

You need to get rid of the entire Medicinal chemistry leaderships. You should retire everyone that has been at Pfizer for 20 years and above. Those are the guys making all the bad decisions. Those that have been at Pfizer for 10 years and above don’t work in the labs any more. This is basically half of the work force hence the lack of productivity and project delivery.

    I worked at Pfizer full-time

    Pros

Working for the #1 pharmaceutical company in the industry - great training - ability to work with many talented and educated people - lots of perks

    Cons

Annual layoffs- excellent performance does not guarantee job security - good ol boy network - many promotions not based on merit but rater who you is your "buddy". HUGE territories!

    Advice to Management

Value talented people - quit changing course every 5 minutes - value relationships that tenured reps have fostered - Huge territories are so incredibily non-productive
