I worked at PhysAssist Scribes part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Scribing in the ED was a great experience, especially if you're looking to pursue medical/PA/nursing school. I learned A LOT and became friends with many of the physicians I scribed for outside of work, so it also ended up being a great networking experience.

    Cons

Scribing in a busy ED is a lot of work and deserves much more than what is offered. Even the doctors I worked with were shocked to hear how little we are paid given the amount that we do. Then when you add the additional work as a trainer, the pay is only $1 more.

I worked at PhysAssist Scribes full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The only redeeming feature of a job as a scribe here is that, if you’re looking to get into healthcare, med school, PA school, etc, there’s good experience to be gained here. That’s it. If you have no interest in any of these career avenues however, this is a dead end job that only gets more and more miserable with each shift that you go into.

    Cons

Oh, where to begin? Outrageously low pay that is an insult to how stressful this job is. Schedulers who don’t actually read your schedule comments and have a computer generate your schedule for you that leaves you with awful turnaround times that leave you sleep-deprived. A pre-hiring process that’s extremely lengthy and pre-employment training that doesn’t prepare you for the actual EMR system used on the job. Being forced to complete required pre-employment tasks in a mere 24-48 hour window. Being pressured to take on more responsibilities without even getting a pay raise.
