I have been working at Pioneer Natural Resources full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pioneer has an incredibly qualified leadership team, amazing compensation/benefits, and a staunch commitment to retaining its employees. Truly the best Independent Oil Company out there.

    Cons

Success at Pioneer, much like other oil and gas companies is dominated by a traditional, conservative cultural approach. Resource groups provide the illusion of successful diversity initiatives, but Pioneer is still deficient in terms of empowering non-traditional leaders in oil and gas, namely women and minorities.

    Advice to Management

Eliminate communication barriers muddled by the several layers of middle management and avoid taking the passive approach to being the 'industry leader'. Instead of repeatedly discussing the importance of diversity, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship, start taking action in order to truly put the company ahead.

I worked at Pioneer Natural Resources for more than a year

    Pros

Pioneer treats their employees wonderfully. You are expected to work hard and diligently, but they provide free lunches, an on-site gym, half day Fridays, etc. There are courses to help employees boost and sharpen their skill sets. The company communicates clearly with its employees through a series of Town Hall meetings. Tremendous benefits. Also, I've never worked at a company that cares for its employees on such a...

    Cons

Oil and gas is a commodity-based business, it's volatile.

I have been working at Pioneer Natural Resources

    Pros

PXD is one of the best places to work in the oil and gas industry. Very competitive compensation package and good work life balance. Extensive hands on training plus support from everyone in the company.

    Cons

The company is growing and growing very fast.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work,

I worked at Pioneer Natural Resources full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pioneer is a great place to work. There are several pros like flex time, generous vacation, and personal time off. The company provides several opportunities each year to take courses to advance ones knowledge about the oil and gas industry.

    Cons

It is not Pioneer's fault - it the nature of the oil and gas industry to have ups and downs. The lay off was just a reflection of the times. I do wish they would not have called us all together to say there will not be a lay off because 2 weeks later there was - around 50 people were let go due to poor performance.

    Advice to Management

I do not have any advice for management. The leaders of this company are smart, crafty, and will land on their feet. They are a very savvy group of businessmen and Pioneer will survive long into the future until the leaders are ready to divest it on their own terms.
