RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEOI worked at Playworks full-time for more than a year
Pros
Made an impact on hundreds of kids lives, helped them grow through rapport and play, PlayWorks gives support and training needed
Cons
Emotionally draining, lots of long hours, schedule dependent of the need of the school so you could have few or short breaks

Pros
Fun! Room for growth. If you love working with kids, this is a great opportunity. You can make your program your own and you are not stuck in an office all day.
Cons
Long hours... If you're an Americorps member you get paid salary and the pay is not the best. Most of the day is spent outside, could be a good or bad thing (on the hot days) for some.

RecommendsNeutral OutlookApproves of CEOI worked at Playworks full-time for more than a year
Pros
-Get to play outside all day! -Get to make a difference in the lives of youth (especially low income youth) -Provide an outlet for energy for kids during the school day -Staff meetings are full of games that help you to practice your skills -Teaching experience in a fun environment -Placed in a school and get to develop your own program (with resources/requirements provided) so this is a great job for a recent college grad who is considering the teaching profession -Management is very passionate about the mission and is consistently doing publicity to raise awareness around play for children in schools
Cons
-LONG hours and oftentimes working 6 days a week -Amazing support from direct manager, but people above them did not seem to care about most things happening at school sites -FUN environment, but unprofessional boundaries by some members of management with coaches -No clear ladder for people who want to stay with and/or advance at Playworks -For AmeriCorps members, no vacation time (except for school winter and spring breaks), so no ability to take a day off here or there to have a life -Management tricked people into working more hours than they had to for the year (FREE LABOR) by scaring coaches into thinking they would not make their hours to fill the AmeriCorps agreement. Several people had 100+ extra hours at the end of the year (1700 hour requirement) -2 year max on AmeriCorps service, so there is no guarantee you will have a job after those two years (they only hire a few coaches beyond AmeriCorps service... CHEAP LABOR)
