I have been working at Poundland part-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Good working relationship with most of the staff, some good customers.

    Cons

Poor communication from management regarding staff promotions, getting assigned the same Job each day. Management pressure over product focus targets. Very little growth opportunity. Annoying Self checkouts leaving you very bored.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the Self checkouts and have better attractive prices for product focus, better benefits!

"A company in denial of who and what it is"

    StarStarStarStarStar
      Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

      I worked at Poundland

      Pros

Those colleagues who give a damn every single day - without them the company would have failed

      Cons

Wastage. The company invests millions every year in “new product” - exactly the same product they sold last year in marginally different packaging. As a result they sit on thousands of pounds of stock in every store (“Legacy” product) which eventually is written off and thrown away (or donated to charity where some managers can do so). This all results from not just poor purchasing decisions, but poor stock management...

      Advice to Management

Get with the 21st Century Start treating colleagues as human beings, not human resources Establish what your core products are, and operate on that basis Buy your seasonal product to sell out, not line the walls of warehouses for the next two years

        Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Poundland full-time for more than a year

        Pros

Sorry but no pros for me :(

        Cons

Bad management, lazy people, no training, they don't care about people and about the business. The shop/offices were very unclean same as some of the colleagues... The staff room was horrible couldn't eat or rest there...

        Advice to Management

To give real training to the staff, to spend less time on that chair doing nothing or spending weeks on a rota, to fill the shop and to empty that warehouse and to send to the area managers the real stockcount...

        I worked at Poundland full-time

        Pros

-Colleagues are great fun and all get along -If you work hard and get along with management there is a chance of promotion

        Cons

-Upper management useless -Area manager walks in like they own the place and dont understand the individuality of the stores they visit - So many stupid decisions from management in order to please higher ups - No parties or anything payed for by the company

        Advice to Management

Listen to lower level employees, they often have better ideas than the over payed area managers

        Cons

Investment needed in some stores for a better working environment for staff

        Advice to Management
