      Pros

Overall good work/life balance. Helps employees grow by offering access to training resources and encourages employees to contribute to operational innovation during daily team meetings where concerns and new ideas can be expressed. Was given time and resources to help develop these ideas into possible solutions during idle time, as long as daily tasks were completed. Everyone I worked with was ethical and responsible.

      Cons

Parking, at least from a contractor's point of view. A lot of employees and management are former military, be prepared for terminology that you may not be used to hearing. Forwardness is somewhat expected here, if you don't know, don't understand, then ask.

      Good place to work

      Pros

Premera is an ever-growing company that proactively stays relevant and current in the business and insurance market. They offer great benefits, and competitive wages. Most management is very personable and family oriented. They understand your career is your job, and strive for a good work/life balance

      Cons

It is easy to get swept up in the same career ladders even when switching departments. It can be difficult to expand your horizons unless you know exactly what path you want to take. Also, while you always want to be willing to take on extra work, they will always push you to do more, and don't usually have another plan for when associates are overloaded.

      Pros

Good comp/benefits package, great coworkers, good work/life balance

      Cons

Lack of trust in most areas of the company, starting with leaders. There is a disconnect between the employee experience and the customer experience.

Divided leadership - lack of focus

      Pros

Competitive pay, 401k and pension, generous health benefits. Decent location, free parking, work-life balance can be good, depending on who your boss is.

      Cons

Leadership is divided and territorial. Vision, purpose and direction of company outside of "making money" is very unclear. Current purpose to "make healthcare work better" is undefined as to how each employee contributes to that purpose in their work. Answers to very basic questions such as "how are we defining health and healthcare" leave executives with a deer in the headlights look. Consultants and project managers are put in the middle of executives that can't agree and don't hold their teams accountable or acknowledge when they have dropped the ball. Premera used to focus on service and supporting their service teams, but they have since shifted to a "bottom line" mentality where service agents are thrown on the phones with little training or support. Many employees are afraid of their leadership and do not speak up for fear of reprisal, despite leadership lipservice about "psychological safety". The pay and benefits were pretty good, but I'm much happier, and have had more development opportunities since leaving Premera. I would advise potential candidates to pass on Premera and look for another employer with a more clearly defined vision and purpose.

      Very chaotic now

      Pros

Work life balance is good - I rarely worked more than 20 hours a week (wfh) on a full time salary.

      Cons

No growth, bad managers, poor leadership. I was on a particularly dysfunctional team with a lot of meetings and bs, and no one willing to actually manage and make decisions. A lot of reorgs and layoffs — lack of strong leadership with any sense of vision or execution. I didn’t respect Jeff.
