      Not a great place anymore

      Pros

Relaxed work environment, good for manager level employment and manual testers. Doesn't require much technical depth to work.

      Cons

Not an employee friendly work environment and no work life balance anymore. You can not grow technically or you won't learn anything new. Ancient technology and old style management. Frequent lay-offs.

Getting More and More Depressing To Work Here

      Feb 28, 2018 - Anonymous Employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Flexible hours Nice co-workers Teams band together to solve issues Relaxed attire and work environment

      Cons

Company has an issue deciding whether they want to do date-driven or feature-driven development. Has an identity crisis. Each CEO picks a new direction and logo for the company and leaves a year or two later. Not much job stability here these days. Even though it's common knowledge that the pay at Progress is usually less than the same positions in other companies in the area and a couple employees left of their own will after the initial layoffs, there is still not enough money to go around. I've seen emails about lay offs, goodbye emails from co-workers, and emails about program cuts at least once a month for the last year. No sign of that stopping this year. When I first started, the environment and benefits made up for the pay. Ever since the new CEO took over, everyone feels uneasy about when they'll end up on the chopping block. It's made worse by what Progress used to be: really makes it feel like your watching family is getting the boot.

      Pros

Senior level employees are well respected by peers and given the freedom to perform at their maximum potential. Agile methodology helped tremendously to communicate the status of projects and to expedite the outcomes.

      Cons

Lay-offs were a regular occurrence and took its toll on morale, but most importantly the ability of a department to produce its best.

      Pros

Was once a great place to work. It used to be a focused company with a good product that they continuously made better. Growth opened up opportunities. People worked together with a common purpose.

      Cons

Revenue problems put pressure everywhere. Outsourcing, unrealistic expectations and constant revolving door of executives with "new" ideas. First 25 years of the company had one branding the next 5 years had 3 new branding initiatives along with logo just because of change in executive leadership. They tried to buy companies but every acquisition failed, some more spectacularly than others. Lay offs year after year.

      Confusing

      Pros

Work/Life balance is very good but the credit goes to my director. He's a great leader who trusts and respects his team members. Everyone is really kind and friendly and like family. Lots of fun activities. I feel very lucky to work here.

      Cons

The COs are confusing. They want us to feel as though they are approachable but they're really not. Some are better than others but for the most part, best to just stay out of their way and don't talk with them. They definitely play favorites but they are favoring the wrong people (and mostly the men). Disappointing. Was hoping the new CEO would change that but it doesn't look like it. Scary vibe of huge lay-offs coming RIGHT before the holidays! Not cool.

      Progress Response

      Human Capital

Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear that you enjoy working at Progress, specifically with your Director and team. Our new CEO and senior management team has recently announced the new and exciting strategy that will move our company forward. Unfortunately, this strategy did impact some of our valued employees and colleagues and we are sad that the particular decision was necessary. We aim to have an open-door policy and we hope that you will feel comfortable reaching out to a CO, such as our Chief Talent Officer, to discuss any concerns that you may have.

      Pros

Smart, dedicated workforce. Strong and loyal partner base. Company is reinventing itself with a strong focus on SaaS business.

      Cons

So many companies have been bought and sold by Progress (and they have historically not done a good job of integrating them). Feels like there is a new focus every couple of years, with regular lay-offs.
