I have been working at Providence Health & Services part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Excellent pay, well-defined role as a group therapist, supports individuality and creativity in what you bring to the table, skilled, compassionate and professional coworkers

    Cons

Big corporation, inconsistent culture/management between programs, very medical model (therapists often fall at the bottom of the totem pole, under social workers) I have worked on several of the area psychiatric units and have experienced variability unit-by-unit in terms of organization/flow/communication, advocacy/support /inclusion for therapy teams, and general culture. This is important to my work well-being so I have developed preferences for certain units. If My advice to any job seeker is to ask about this in the interviews, connect with an existing employee for an insider's perspective, and trust your instincts around "vibe."

Former Employee - Staff RN in Anchorage, AK
    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Providence Health & Services full-time

    Pros

Majority of staff treat each other well. Workers do their best to keep a positive & supportive atmosphere. There's a nurse union. Most departments are managed well by people who try their best & care about workers as people. Management comes to the floor to help with patient care.

    Cons

Upper administration is completely disconnected with reality at the bedside. They took all of our EIB (extended illness bank) away during this COVID pandemic & now they want to take away our ability to cash out our PTO. Since PSJH has taken over the Catholic hospital system it's become only about profit & taking from the workers while hiding behind providing services to community & saying they care for patients and using fluff words to make them seem like they aren't corrupt.

I have been working at Providence Health & Services full-time

    Pros

Large healthcare facility with relatively abundant resources compared to smaller rural hospitals. Union nurse positions good health care benefits and retirement.

    Cons

Large healthcare facility with a lot of climbers in director and leadership positions. Hard to keep leadership around. Consta try changing the goals of the unit.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Providence Health & Services part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people I work with make this job enjoyable, even though its a tough job. Very nice culture (on the Medical floor anyway). Lately we have been staffed well and management tries to stay on matrix, on our floor that is 4 to 5 patients per nurse. NACs range from 2-3 for the floor, sometimes its one and that is difficult

    Cons

The worst part is when staffing is short which is not that often, however, it can happen. They do need more NAC support on this floor most of the time. Buddy system for brakes is unsafe.
