Amazing company to work for

I loved every minute working for Qantas. A very supportive company structure, freedom to work at your own pace and style. Flexibility was always an option. Great remuneration and company benefits. I am sad it had to end.

Toxic workplace, inconsiderate, no flexibility
5 Mar 2023 - Customer Service RepresentativeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Staff travel. That’s it. Nothing else.
Cons
Toxic and highly political workplace. Inconsiderate management and zero flexibility. Stated I was a uni student before I applied and they said it would be fine, when I got there it was a whole different story to the point I wasn’t allowed to leave 5mins early for an exam or to go home when I was sick. Absolute bullsh*t leave policies. No career progression and rock bottom pay.

Expected more from Australia’s premium airline.

Staff travel! Was the only thing positive out of the experience.
Cons
Overall the position left me feeling physically and mentally draining. They over work you and the amount of verbal abuse from passengers can lead you feeling quite low after a days work. Pay is atrocious for the amount of work customer service agents do. Sometimes I asked myself whether it was even worth going in to work. For a premium airline I would expect Qantas to treat their employees better!! The union is constantly fighting for better conditions but Qantas won’t budge. How sad considering ground crew have been doing their best to get Qantas through tough times like the pandemic. Unfortunately they only see you as a number. Disposable workers. Work culture is toxic also, a lot of gossip and drama.

Poor management - poor treatment of staff

Travel benefits - which although incredibly difficult to use
Cons
Poor management at the highest levels Terribly rosters - no work life balance Difficult to swap shift get time off Have to book leave in 12-18months in advance and must be taken in blocks of 2 or 3 weeks, and must be taken starting on certain days (no flexibility) Only given pay rises or bonuses after record profit years by being blackmailed into signing EBA with pay freezes or declining working conditions. Injuries in the workplace are dismissed or refused no room for movement or progression. No acknowledgement for jobs done well
