Land of Treason
8 May 2023 - Associate Professor in Middle City East, PARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Overall nothing counts as pros here.
Cons
They make an interview with you. They ask you about your nationality twice! They offer you a contract. Their Chairman contacts you via email, phone, and WhatsApp to tell you that he is your friend and you are part of the development of the department there. Their Faculty Dean contacts you and tell you that everything is just fine. Their HR contacts you via email and phone and congratulate you for being with them. They tell you that they need you within a few months. You sell your households, car, and resign from your post to join them. You tell them that you resigned from your post to join them. After a few months, you wake up in the morning to find a filthy email from them telling you sorry, but they have to withdraw their contract due to long visa processing!!!!!!!!! Ooooh... I forgot to mention that they will lie to you frequently and tell you that your visa will take 1-4 weeks, but the truth is that your visa was never processed!!!! If I can give them any title, surely it will be "THE LAND OF TREASON". They know exactly how to stab you in your back.

Pros
There are not many pros that can be addressed. The only pro is that the fellow researchers and students I encountered there are friendly and fun to work with. The salary is quite decent.
Cons
The proper research infrastructure for GA is not there. The GA scholarship doesn't cover any travel expenses to conferences or internships. If you are to submit to a journal, then they cover the publishing fees. Otherwise, you will have to pay for yourself. My experience with my direct supervisor was not that good. Despite giving him a couple of good publications (some he even didn't take part in!!) published in top venues, he was not professional as he kept talking badly behind my back....like he does on others. The research environment where I was working was quite depressing. No innovation, reusing the same methods to solve problems, and the majority of the work is simulation-based and nothing realistic or actual implementation. Once you graduate with Masters/PhD, you are not eligible to work at QU. They will not consider your application, as they only want someone with a degree from top 10% universities.
