I worked at RBC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great company with lots of organizational events (Summer fest, town halls, quarterly awards etc). Opportunity to grow your technical skills. Well organized. You're not forced to do lots of overtime (you're compensated by in-lieu time of you do OT) They have mandatory 2 days training for employees, which is good. Overall a very good organization to work for. Not a lot of politics, you can speak up and make things...

    Cons

They don't allow work from home even though the offer letter states 1 day work from home per week is allowed. It's not easy to move within company (to different team) They're hiring more and more cheap offshore developers (and hiring contractors solely from TCS) who are just incompetent, making things a lot more difficult for onshore employees who end up having to fix things after them.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to save money by hiring cheap and incompetent offshore and TCS developers. You're just going to end up losing some good developers and employees as a result.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at RBC for less than a year

    Pros

Lots of exciting opportunities to use new technologies and to see cutting edge tech in action. Some of the managers and workers are great. Made many great friends here.

    Cons

There are some practices + people that make life absolutely miserable.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging and playing politics. Consult the whole project team on a possible decision for the project, or at the very least the product owner.

I worked at RBC for less than a year

    Pros

    - Tech division is very large, opportunity to move around into different mediums is possible - Lots of events in the summer with free food

    Cons

    - Low code quality, lack of experienced engineers - Lots and lots of pet projects that aren’t actually too useful to the company - Lot of dead-weight employees that are just sitting around (the company is massive with too many employees)

    Pros

Number one bank in Canada makes billions of dollars per quarter. Stock pays good dividend.
