    Pros

Work culture similar to PSUs . They won't fire you untill you do something disastrous.
If you are really hardworking and good with flattery you will climb the ladder very fast.
Pay will be good with grade promotion

    Cons

You join as an engineer but learning opportunities are negligible.
Too much documentation than actual work, mostly in name of safety.
Too many frustrated people who will advise you to leave the company asap.

I worked at Reliance Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

As the world's largest refinery complex, there are many opportunities to learn refining technologies, and to find ways to improve / optimize them. And with multiple engineering companies contracted to assist, this learning can be enhanced by interactions with the likes of UOP or SGS.

    Cons

There is considerable upper management inertia, resistance to new ideas. The person with a new and/or novel solution or improvement must be determined to see it through to completion - and patient. Even then some ideas will not make it through the management thicket.

    Advice to Management

Be more accepting of innovation from your own staff. All good ideas do not come from process developers / vendors / catalyst sales staff. Look as hard at the upside benefits as you now do at the downside risks.
