Pros

Flexible work schedule, nice office.

Cons

If the title doesn't say it all. Small company, and their entire executive leadership team are men – there is no inclusion and diversity. Good ole boys club and very cliquish. Nepotism is at its finest, multiple family members working in the same department even reporting to the same manager. Inappropriate romantic relations between leadership and employee which clearly goes against their policy, is overlooked and swept under the rug. Male leaders are allowed to be caustic and their behavior is overlooked while they demoralize employees. Revolving door for leadership and will be terminated without warning. Unfair employee treatment, such as firing one employee but will give another employee multiple ‘final warnings’ because they are a ‘good collector’. The 'family culture' they pride themselves on when luring new hires is a farse. They will terminate an employee at just the right time of the month and lie about why so that they don’t have to pay out their bonus. Just remember, all that glitter isn’t gold. Don’t waste your time, don’t leave your job with tenure to only come here and lose at the end. Benefits aren’t that great -mediocre at best. Very expensive health insurance.

WHAT A LAUGH

Pros

Nice cubicles, windows all around the building, clean air in the office, nice people except for upper management. Great break room, large screen TV, filtered water, different flavored coffees.

Cons

Upper management thinks they are above the workers. They do not associate with them. Once a year they make frozen hamburgers for the collectors and office staff to show their appreciation. After the mangers have catered lunch meetings once a week they put the left overs in the break room for the lower employees to scavenger over. The collectors are the lowest paid collectors in the business. The foundation of their company, the collector representative, is demoralized by the monthly goals set for them. Goals that are meant to keep the collectors not making any money but pay the salaries for all the directors and vice presidents the president hires from outside as well as buying other collection agencies. For a small business they have the most amount of upper management ever seen or needed, yet, the president keeps making new positions, like Vice President of Acquisitions, Director of this or that, and they are paid quite well from the toil of the collectors. It makes me laugh when they state on their website "room for advancement". The two collectors, and there are only two, who were 'promoted' to manager in training positions have had that title for years- never promoted to a manager, not to this day. The other collection managers demean, criticize, bully, micro-manage, and intimidate the collectors to keep them in their place: feeling lucky they have a job. The statistic quoted on their website i for lack of turn-over in their company is not about the collectors but the other departments, like the legal department, IT department, QA, etc. The collectors there are miserable 90% of the time, but upper management turns a blind eye and keeps piling on the quotas to hit to make their company successful. The company is successful because of the efforts of the collectors but they have trouble buying gas and food before their next paycheck and it not out of mismanagement of their funds; the company has very creative ways of keeping bonuses away from the collectors if they make one.The rules change every day and when the write-up is handed out they say "you should have known." There is nothing in the policy manual about your write-up but 'you should have known'. There is no bonus if the collector makes 100% , nothing if they make 101%, they have to make 110% before they receive a measly bonus and 120% before they receive an OK bonus. Then another little known trick they do: the last week of the month is taken away from the collector for bonus if the next month starts in that week. Oh, it is even more convoluted than that. The volunteer work the company participates in is for the lower employees, upper management promotes it but never does any of the work. They never attend any of the volunteer activities they tell their non-exempt employees to do on their own time with no compensation whatsoever, no time off, no catered lunch, nothing but a smile and pat on the back as they walk away. They stay home with their family while they show pictures to the world of what a great company it is, look at all the volunteer work we do. It is a funny company, for sure.

Thank you for taking time to post a review. As you list your are a current employee, it is disheartening to hear you have such a negative view on our organization. I would highly reccomend that you take time to share your concerns with the VP of Collections and with the HR department at your earliest convenience. As you should be aware, HW strives to improve everyday, and I can tell you the Executive Team is constantly working to make HW the best it can be. I hope you take the opportunity to speak with us in person and help us address your concerns.

Pros

Close to my house and able to get there quickly.

Cons

So much to say…leadership, favoritism, nepotism, lack of diversity and inclusion, arrogant leadership, doesn’t walk the walk, or talk the talk. Pay just terrible.

We appreciate the feedback as there is always room for improvement. We have a strong leadership team at both the executive and line levels and live our core values of respect, accountability, and kaizen on a daily basis. Our pay structure is competitive for all roles as we offer base and bonus compensation, with the bonus intentionally structured to incentivize our employees to meet and exceed monthly or quarterly goals.
