I have been working at Rockstar Games full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The work/life balance has improved immensely from what was once proclaimed about the studio. Strong management interested in individual employees. Very genuine and passionate employees who want to see you succeed. Really solid compensation and benefits. Work on some of the world's largest and most well known games. Learn how to work with teams across the world.

    Cons

Probably best not to identify yourself on social media as an employee, as you open up some more doors than you might intend. Not a con of the studio itself.

    Cons

-Work is repetitive -Few transferable software skills -Very difficult to progress out of QA compared to other companies -Lincoln

I worked at Rockstar Games full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Vast majority of staff are great to get along with, you will never feel like an outsider - Kitchenette and vending machine that is stocked - Get chance to work on top quality projects - Have a kitchen with chefs to provide lunches for day and night shift

    Cons

    - Crunch time is hard, and a lot is expected of you. While crunch is technically optional, it is more mandatory unless proven otherwise. Can be draining on employees, especially those who are not used to such an environment. - While vast majority of staff were great, 1 or 2 individuals caused issues. 1 had attitude and work ethic problems (though this was dealt with by the company after repeat offences), while the other asserted power that gone to his head (despite having no real power to speak of), and would only treat you well if you were part of a special circle of friends/long term employees. This individual only affected me on one occasion, but for many of my colleagues they had weekly issues with this person. - Performance is based on numbers. You could spend all day looking at one game-breaking bug that needs to be fixed, but if you're numbers are low due to it you can usually expect to get some flack from management. Can promote a bad work ethic, meaning some bugs may not get fixed/reported as they want to keep their numbers high instead of investigating the issue

  8. "Good as an entry into the industry."

I worked at Rockstar Games for less than a year

    Pros

This is for the Rockstar Games Lincoln UK studio Great people Work on highly-regarded products Managers weren't too bad Christmas Party was good This is a good entry into the games industry as QA is a great way to get started. Stick at testing games for a couple of years (one if you are lucky) and get a deeper understanding of the development process. QA sucks and is the worst area to go into, but it does open doors for you to progress further into your career.

    Cons

This is for the Rockstar Games Lincoln UK studio One of the smallest game studios. It's across 3 floors but only 2 are really used for actual game-based work. Ground floor is just meeting rooms. It's a very small studio and very bland, feels just like a random office than a game studio. Canteen on GF is tiny and everyone goes to lunch at the same time. You're not allowed to eat hot food at your desk so you need to rush to get a space in the canteen. The kitchenettes on each floor are also small. Because this is just a QA only studio, the environment is a bit strange. You share a desk between night shift and day shift and nothing on your desk is really your own. Consoles and hardware is often switched around, it just feels very unorganised. Booking holidays was a bit of a hassle. You are entitled to however many days a year by law but you always had to have a proper reason to book time off. Over christmas, you needed to have a 'compelling reason' in order to take time off. Crunch was 6 days a week for a year or more in 2017-2018. Crunch is expected in this industry and you won't get far without embracing it, but it's still one of the cons. As this is a QA only studio, you don't really get to interact with any other member of the development team. Be that artists, devs, producers, community management etc. You won't feel like you are a part of the development team.

I have been working at Rockstar Games for more than a year

    Pros

-Peers are great and friendly people -Get to be involved with massive AAA games -Good overtime pay -Decent benefits -Good for CV

    Cons

-All work, no life when it comes to the work/life balance, company is run by workaholics without any concern for your home life. Expect 60+ hour weeks as standard. -HR is more concerned with protecting the company than it is the wellbeing of its employees. -Terrible management with terrible decisions. -Easy to feel like another "number" who is easily replaceable. -No career progression opportunities, studio is solely QA so if you want to make it into a design/code role then you won't find it here. -Attacked by HR and management if raising questions about working hours. -No trust shown in employees. -Treated like children in regards to internal policies and protocols. -Bad canteen, picked by the studio manager without any say/feedback from the staff. -Toxic studio environment, more comparable to a depressing office block than a games studio. -Makes no attempt to hold onto experienced members of staff. -QA is treated like dirt, Lincoln is very much the bottom of the studio pecking order. -Has an internal feedback system that actively encourages anonymous backstabbing of other peers.
