Current Employee - Test Engineer in Auburn Hills, MI

I have been working at Roush Industries full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Being a test engineer has its perks. You are able to spend time with and learn about the newest automotive products. Fellow Coworkers are all very nice and there is a great work environment.

    Cons

Management does not recognize or acknowledge good work. Needed to ask multiple times for a yearly performance review, and once a review was given there was not much helpful feedback and no raise was offered.

I have been working at Roush Industries full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

If you're motivated, the opportunities to make your mark and advance quickly are everywhere. Hard work and execution are rewarded with interesting projects and new responsibilities.

    Cons

Nothing unusual for a mid sized, growing company.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to let potential new hires learn more about the variety and type of projects available. There's a lot to like about the work. Sell it!

I have been working at Roush Industries full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

New and exciting work all the time. Never a dull moment. Really learn all aspects of development and durability of engine platforms from start to finish. Engineering is talented and very trusting of technicians to perform tasks required. Other techs always offer advice, tools and a hand if needed. A solid learning platform to spring board off of for other careers.

    Cons

Management has lil to no clue. Most of the higher ups have been in a mangers position for a long time and have little to fear so generally dont care. The good ol boys club is alive and well also. Petty things get keyed on while major problems overlooked. Good luck ever getting promoted because all the positions are locked down by the babysitting club. Many are well past retirement age but still continue to nurse the... bank accounts since its basically show and go for them. Sadly many good engineers, techs and customers leave because of this issue.

    Advice to Management

The position you have is not just a dog and pony show. Get your hands dirty. Earn your check like you expect your underlings. Promote others up and dont be so stingy with the money. The wasteful things bought for no reason could keep good employees. Actually care about what's going on around you and remember its today not 30 years ago. Your ruining a great company being mediocre!

I have been working at Roush Industries full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Interesting projects that are both challenging and rewarding. Opportunity to learn and participate in the automotive development process.

    Cons

Company only sees upper management as the priority. Anyone under that feels like a replaceable part. Customers continue to demand more, upper management says yes yes yes, yet no pay incentives, extracurriculars, or anything just to show some appreciation to the lower people that spend so much time to the projects, let alone dedication to the company. Pay is below average. Cost of living adjustments are non existent.... Company is reactive instead of proactive.

    Advice to Management

Care about your people more. Especially at the off sites who get zero benefits offered by the main site. Acknowledge their effort somehow, even if it’s not pay increases. The lack of just honest communication and loyalty to your employees is your weakest link at the moment.
