Pros

Some of the people were nice.

Cons

Very antiquated, old school work environment and culture with policies and procedures to match. Employees afraid to go to lunch a few minutes later than usual, or leave the office 10 minutes before their typical quitting time. Very much a clock-watching workplace based on presenteeism rather than productivity and results. Many underpaid staff with few development opportunities, while senior leaders net 6-figure salaries, plus bonuses. Depressing office in both mood and appearance; water in toilets and sinks is a weird brown or rusty yellow color. Old furniture from the 1970s. If you are innovative and not part of the status quo, this place is not for you.

Pros

Hand sanitizer outside the bathrooms, elevator, leftover lunches after director meetings.

Cons

Very hirearchial. Division directors have all the power, micromanage and are permitted to act like children/chastise their teams; especially those in the school improvement section. No advancement opportunities. Little diversity. Heavy paper-based office. Only growth opportunities are for directors and favorites. Super passive-aggressive supervisors think they are smarter than everyone else. Depressed team. Sad and sorry place where people are drones.

Pros

Retirement contributions are matched at 6%

Cons

You will be treated as less than a human person. The level of micromanagement defies belief. Manager literally would stand behind me and "order" me to use their preferred keyboard shortcuts in Excel. You need permission to leave the office for any reason. Staff not allowed to leave when snowstorm was starting. Staff not allowed to work from home when there was no electricity or Internet in the office. (Staff never allowed to work from home, period.) Manager had to read and approve my emails before they were sent out. All that matters is how long you sit at your desk in the office all day, not what you actually do. Racism, homophobia, and misogyny are rampant. Old age is valued over knowledge and experience. Once you are hired in one position, you will work in that one position forever--no one is ever promoted from within. It's like working in the 1960s. HR practices are extremely outdated. The organization itself is no longer relevant because there are national orgs are doing a better job.
