Pros

HP has very great benefits. Co Workers are exceptional - smart and helpful. They know how to support each other. Medicare fraud investigation is a cause worth pursuing and fighting.

Cons

Management and Sr. management are not trained leaders - or decent human being for that matter. to be a leader is to guide employees towards the goal. accentuate the strengths and minimize the weaknesses. SGS managers are behind the times in what it takes to be good leaders. the employees are working out of fear. as soon as economy turns around - other positions will be sought. sgs will loose the base of it's only asset - the employees. it will be costly and a set back to hire all new investigators - it takes a good year or more to become productive with all the client requirements. Protecting the medicare trust system is all of our goals. but employees should not be subjected to humiliation and disrespect in the process. We each have a wealth of knowledge, experience and background - most of us are more diverse than the managers. Yet the daily condescending abuse is so unacceptable. We accept the client requirements but not the brutal enforcement thereof. Human error is not avoidable. Management pushes the panic button on errors and problems within the range of normal. They are mean spirited and get off on being so. Any success just reinforces their negative style of management. Time to move on as soon as possible.

Pros

The employees I worked with were great. The sick time and vacation time are pretty good. Fighting Medicare fraud is a great feeling.

Cons

I worked for SGS/HPE for almost 9 years and the changes that have occurred in management, benefits and salary made it an awful place to work. The work load was manageable but with the new contract and the WFR it will be impossible. Management doesn't have a clue. You get no training or guidance from management. The equipment you have to work with is a joke. Pay raises and or bonuses are nonexistent and the only thing that has increased is the amount you pay for benefits. They have lost so many great employees. This used to be a great place to work, it's very sad.

Decent Job; Poor Pay; Good Benefits but Costly

Pros

1. Good colleagues who work hard and easy to work with. 2. Finding fraud and abuse in the Medicare and Medicaid programs gives you a good feeling about the work you are doing. 3. New office building. 4. Busy but not overwhelming workloads for most people. There are some job exceptions and certain time periods where the amount of work expected is nearly impossible. Recent layoffs with new contract will increase workload and expectations significantly, however. 5. Generally decent benefits and fairly comprehensive; but Hewlett Packard (which owns SGS) is forcing employees to pay increasingly large percentage of the cost; much higher than the competition. 6. Industry standard 401(k) contribution of 3 percent just dropped to 2.5 percent.

Cons

1. Incredibly low pay compared to competitors and others in the industry. I just left to take a similar job and got a 50 percent increase in my salary with better benefits at a lower cost to me. 2. Don't expect any pay raises or bonuses despite being promised. I met or exceeded expectations throughout my 9 years and got a single $2,500 raise and one small bonus. Pay increases will continue to be tamped down for the foreseeable future as SGS/HPE merges with another company. Labor costs will be suppressed to make a profit and show shareholders new company can be profitable.....for them....not the employees. 3. Morale is very low. Recent workforce reduction, low salaries; increasing health care costs; increased workload are making employees reconsider staying. Many have told me they are now actively looking for other employment. 4. HPE (parent company of SGS) is forcing employees to pay much larger shares of the health care costs which means the employee's net salaries are going down each year. Can't even keep up with low inflation rate. New company merger in April 2017 will likely continue this trend. 5. Work is generally boring. Employees no longer have freedom to look for fraud and abuse. Most of the data analyst work is following leads provided by CMS fraud prevention system that has an incredibly high number of false positives. Investigators mostly do paper work rather than investigate fraud and abuse. 6. Bonuses are non existent for employees compared to 8-9 years ago. 7. Generally poor management. Many managers have poor people skills and communicate poorly with their staff. Mostly nice people but not the most competent. 8. Virtually no training to improve your skill set. Most work with software and systems is self taught or with the assistance of other employees. 9. Almost no career advancement opportunities. 10. Only 10 vacation days in first year. 11. Regular changes made to computer systems and policies without proper testing and consultation with those who have to use the systems and carry out the policies. Management quick to make changes without discussing ramifications with their staff.
