    I worked at Saipem

    Pros

Great company for oil sector, every body hard working, capable to perform any challenging project in due time. Resourceful, excellent wages and may learn a lot from job training. Safety on top of every step. Respect multinational employees.

    Cons

Higher management and middle management are not capable enough to merge with the procedures of North American business. Impatience practice and hire and fire attitude is a serious negative practice with the middle management of Italian staff.

    Advice to Management

Despite of learning in the beginning in Canada the company's top management and middle management never been reshuffle much to improve the business.

    I worked at Saipem

    Pros

Large projects and a lot of work. Good benefits overall.

    Cons

Management is very concentrated in Italy. In the UK they bring basically all managers from Italy and the feeling is that you need to be Italian to get a supervisory role.

    Advice to Management

    Give foreign workers more opportunities.

    I worked at Saipem full-time

    Pros

Some opportunity to work offshore. Interesting projects to work on. That's about it. I know so many people that have been screwed over by this company it's unbelievable.

    Cons

Either you're in with the right people, or you're out the door (being Italian certainly helps you to be in with the right people!). Current state of industry has led them to make a number of redundancies. The selection process for this has nothing to do with your ability, it's all about who you know. Minimal opportunity for career progression unless you get lucky enough to work on the right project at the... right time. Absolutely no benefits to working as staff rather than a contractor.

    Advice to Management

Treat all employees with the respect they deserve, as the majority that are left will soon have none for you. You say you are a company of integrity, perhaps you should try and live up to that claim.

I worked at Saipem full-time for more than a year

    Pros

it's a great organization, full of good people and with awesome benefits at least if compared to the average italian company

    Cons

bad calls from top management are causing troubles that affect all the company, throwing mud on the work of dedicated employees (and possibly eventually losing contracts)

    Advice to Management

more focus on stability for the company will end with greater opportunities for everybody and more caution in public speeches that could cast a bad look on all the employee

I have been working at Saipem for more than 3 years

    Pros

35/35 on off rotations decent pay good training programs

    Cons

No bonuses. Recent cuts in salary Recent cuts on health insurance benefits. Still struggling to get read of old type mentality of some italian/spanish workers.

    Advice to Management

Implement a program of rewarding employees based on their merits not on their passport althow I fully understand that the cost of living is higher in some countries.

I worked at Saipem full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Management is good but mostly Italians. They talk in the Italian language even in the meeting. I had a good experience working for Saipem Canada and lots of opportunity to success throughout my four years of work there.

    Cons

Management is not transparent to local employees. Sometimes local employee feels they are not part of the management.

    Advice to Management

Please give authority to local management to prosper

I worked at Saipem full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Despite all the terrible Italian expatriate managers, there were still some great people that worked there. Technically, the company is pretty good in its design and execution (albeit not profitable). You will learn a lot about working in an International company, and meeting people from all different cultures.

    Cons

The Saipem management style is to treat everyone around you poorly, promote and reward based on social connections (not competence), take no responsibility for your actions, and blame HR when things go wrong. The numerous expatriates are arrogant and incompetent--which is rather ironic considering that Saipem hasn't turned a profit on any projects in years. The company will most likely leave Canada in a few months.... If it stays, only work there if it is financially lucrative for you to do so, and get out as soon as you can. Saipem has very little upside in Canada. The parent company in Milan is run even worse than Canada. It dumps expenses into its subsidiaries to ensure they are not profitable, and bogs them down in useless reporting in the name of compliance while providing no real support. The corruption is rampant in Milan, and the CEO has made very few changes in his tenure.

I have been working at Saipem full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

You can feel safe it this company as they will usually offer you switch of department before you are laid off. Salary is not in top of the sector but should be somewhere in the middle. You can ask for some overseas assignments but if you are not Italian you will be offered only locations where Italian don't want to go.

    Cons

You will often find fossils that are not doing anything nor they know to do anything except slow you down. Sharing of information and knowledge is extremely bad. They will not invest in your training or development at all except you are Italian, of course.

    Advice to Management

Company usually end up with the worst human resources on the market. If you don't invest in the employees and give them some new job opportunities the best will leave and what you are left is your reality.

I have been working at Saipem full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good salary, good opportunities to learn and grow, exposure to megaprojects, exposure to multinational work culture, identifies your true potential and value and appreciate your abilities and contributions as per tier 2 below.

    Cons

There are two tiers in company: (1) Italians on top of pyramid like kings (2) Everyone else is slave. Rules are different for both tiers. An Italian will always be your boss even if they don't know anything....just because they are Italian. They take credit for everything good and blame slaves for everything bad.

    Advice to Management

Open up your eyes against discrimination.
