    Pros

Many opportunities to develop and climb the ladder

    Cons

They really try to sell their “culture” but this actually only exists at head office - trade counter staff will be disillusioned of any such culture very quickly. If your face doesn’t fit it will often be an uphill battle, that you will eventually lose. HR are in Area Manager pockets, so do not expect fair treatment in many cases. They cannot retain real quality employees - the good managers/area managers you encounter will leave after a year or so.

During COVID they have really looked after the staff, given two extra payments and a £50 voucher at Christmas.

    Cons

Expect to work hard but in a fun atmosphere.

    Pros

Closes at night unfortunately it reopens

    Cons

Won’t give you enough staff and they really push you to the limit running around a tiny warehouse for tiny parts that are almost always in the wrong place

    Pros

I’ve worked in 5 different stores and the atmosphere and vibe is always the same. Happy people, good fun and lots of support. Given the size of the company it feels almost like a family run business, ver interpersonal.

    Cons

I can’t think of any, it really is a great place to work! There’s countless opportunities to better yourself and climb the ladder of you so wish.

    Not what it was

    Pros

Contracted hours are great at 37.5, on an early you can be home by 3.

    Cons

Company used to be a big believer in work/life balance, I used to equally share the ‘bad’ shifts amongst myself and the management team, we all had one late a week, and we took turns doing weekends resulting in working 1 in 3. Now I have to work every other, as well as 6am starts and 8pm finishes multiple times during the week, messing your body clock up and resulting in feeling absolutely drained. I understand this is not bad in comparison to other companies, but if we are going to be like other companies then we will lose our work/life balance, one of the greatest things about screwfix. Promotions, there is no set path for a store manager to be promoted, no training plan, no targets to aim for, just have to keep going and keep asking. If you want progression past store manager this is not the company for you. Final thing company bonus, last year screwfix changed the bonus structure, so whilst screwfix as a business thrived, kingfisher did not, meaning that screwfix managers bonus was nowhere near what it has been, even though we delivered just as much and worked as hard, of course kingfisher still gave out bonus to their managers, even though their results were shocking.
