Great for job experience, challenge to stay long-term

      Pros

CEO is very patient-centric and pipeline development is very strong. Employees have opportunities to work on a variety of projects and gain valuable experience very quickly. Most employees have been allowed to work from home during the Covid-19 pandemic. Many direct managers are easy to work with and supportive of career development.

      Cons

Fast timelines and slow decision making by management can create challenging workloads and require regular overtime. The company is growing very quickly and structural processes are constantly in flux, which is causing a lot of inefficiency and an increase in workloads. It can be hard to get promoted in some departments because there are strict time requirements in positions regardless of performance.

Exceptional, High Growth Place to Work with a Compelling Mission of Fighting Cancer

Oct 19, 2019 - Team Leader in Bothell, WA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Compelling mission of helping patients with cancer; World's leader in antibody drug conjugates, a critical new therapy for cancer care; ADCETRIS is now the standard of care in Hodgkins and other lymphomas and revenues are growing; Two new late stage drugs are on path to approval - Enfortumab vedotin in bladder cancer and Tucatinib in breast cancer; A fast growing multi-product, global biotechnology company with a great culture where you can build an exciting career.

      Cons

Biggest downside is that a high growth work environment isn't for everyone. Things are changing fast, processes haven't always kept up with growth, and decision making isn't always as straightforward as it would be in a more stable environment.

Great ideas and some wonderful people, difficult place to work

Feb 27, 2019 - Director in Bothell, WA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Some departments are excellent. There are a large number of innovative, driven, hard-working employees who work at Seattle Genetics. Corporate goals around advancing novel therapies are laudable. CEO has great energy, enthusiasm and seems committed to sharing information and insights regularly. Events thrown for achieving corporate milestones were a blast!

      Cons

The top-down management style common in senior leadership stifles decision making and energy of team leads. The need to generate consensus (often in a series of one-on-one meetings with each individual team member prior to the actual meeting) deters innovative thinking and creates an environment where one must be wary of speaking honestly / openly. Bit of the "good ol' boy" attitude lingers among those for whom a job at SG was their very first job in industry. May not be the best place for people coming in with significant experience at other biotechs. For a smaller company, SG seemed unnecessarily political. Public transit does not serve the Bothell sites very well- can be a tough commute by car unless you live north of campus.

Think twice! Experience- depends on your department

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great company vision. Good pipeline. Some colleagues are Professional and helpful. Training opportunities. Decent compensation and benefits

      Cons

Taken from earlier review: Decision-making is not transparent -- many behind closed doors. No life. Very hard to get through a work day in the office. In meetings someone controls everyone by setting his own agenda and deciding what everybody else do and how they do it and when. The meetings are a one-man show where the person calls the shots in a controlling talk. Others have to sit stiff and silent listening. No one shares their thoughts and ideas in an open and friendly atmosphere. No smiles, laughs.. Just work and leave. Its made obvious that you are not trusted, your ideas, suggestions, questions are not welcome. Just do what is told.

Pros and Cons for every company

      May 6, 2016 -  in Bothell, WA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The company's values and mission are excellent. Passion for patients appears to be real, not just a slogan. Collaboration and teamwork are encouraged.

      Cons

Lack of flexibility regarding telecommuting. No retirement options as are available at other biotechs. Decision-making is not transparent -- many behind closed doors.
