    Pros

Friendly, helpful and collaborative culture which embraces everyone to be themselves. Forward thinking and innovative.

    Cons

Modernisation needed with some aspects of tech, facilities and approach but they are aware of this and have plans in place to fast track these initiatives to better support their people and clients.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Shakespeare Martineau full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Joined the company just before the Coronavirus lockdown and feel the firm has responded to it really well. I feel confident in the firm, they are really transparent with communications and they clearly value the opinion of everyone, no matter your level of seniority or length of service. Forward thinking law firm, that has robustness and infrastructure of an experienced long-standing business, but the energy and enthusiasm of a start up.

    Cons

Such a large business means it does take a while to understand all of the different services and complexities of the teams.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Shakespeare Martineau full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Free fruit is delivered twice a week in the Birmingham office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

    Cons

No appreciation from senior staff or indeed the company for working overtime (which is consistent). Partners all have a negative attitude towards you. HR are astute in the sense that they will not document your calls by writing so to avoid any paper trail if any complaints or queries. No career progression. Bonus are a sodden capped to 2% and SM have abolished this poor percentage for 2020. IT is poor.

"Not worth sacrificing your mental health! (Solihull office specific)"

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Shakespeare Martineau full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - The salary / benefits package - Onsite parking

    Cons

    - Not trusted to act on own initiative - Be prepared to fight tooth and nail to be allowed to do basic secretarial duties (apply for Searches, obtain office copies, file SDLT forms etc). - Be prepared for the monotonous work of an administrator even though the job title is 'legal secretary'. - Be prepared to be bullied by colleagues of the same title who do not share work fairly with the team and retain some processes only for themselves in the interest of their own self-importance. - Be prepared to work in the tired old Porta Cabin in the car park (this conveniently won't have been mentioned until your first day. This is where the majority of staff work). - The staff turnover is incredibly high for a small branch office of 40 people. - The firm's probation period is 6 months. Most people leave before their probation period is up.

    Cons
