I have been working at Shoe Zone full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nice and understanding management Staff easy to get along with Stocking is easy Everything is easy to understand and grasp, and even when you get stuff wrong management doesn’t make you feel stupid Tills easy to use 25% discount can be useful, especially around Christmas period Easy to get time off, at short notice too (was also very accommodating at the fact that I booked a festival before I got the job) Stockroom easy to navigate Good songs played on the radio and a variety too Customers are mostly pleasant, more so than any other retail place I’ve worked Management understands if you’re a few minutes late Gives me overtime when I want it and especially need it Works around my school schedule with no problem Head office pay for meal at Christmas party night out Head office also send boxes of chocolates at the end of the year to thank staff My regional head office is quite cooperative

    Cons

Can get very quiet at my location and once you’ve done your set tasks, left thinking what to do next Not much opportunity to move up unless you really want to and ask for it No training for opening and closing up/banking so can’t really say much about that Head office can be picky about some things like email club or using your card to log in or checking fill up If there’s not many people employed like at my branch, more shifts have to be taken on which is fine for somebody like me who wants them but may not be ideal for others Maintenance don’t seem to really care about the store falling apart

I have been working at Shoe Zone part-time for more than a year

    Pros

25% Staff Discount, Christmas Bonus, Christmas Party, uniform is provided, work shoes are now free (whereas before you had to pay for them using your discount) and now £8 is paid towards work trousers (depending on job title, example: I'm a part-time Sales Assistant so I get £8 once a year towards work trousers). At the store I USED TO work in (before it closed down), the store I CURRENTLY work in and another store I have twice COVERED FOR on a Sunday (so that's three separate, local stores) all the staff are absolutely amazing! So, so friendly and upbeat. We banter all the time and they feel like extended family. Who knew you could have such a laugh at work eh? The job itself is mostly very basic and easy, however the frequent moves, finding somewhere to put new lines and filling in empty gaps on shelves when there's not enough stock to do it with can be a bit challenging! :P Add the customers on top and you've got yourself a retail job. Even so, I can't imagine working anywhere else. I just love it.

    Cons

Minimum wage. :/ Uniforms aren't very flattering! x'D

I worked at Shoe Zone full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

25% discount, flexible hours and for the most part friendly staff.

    Cons

Hours getting cut every year even though your told if the profits go up you will get them back you never do. Heavy lifting is a massive con with deliveries, moves and new lines constantly up and down stairs with heavy buckets. Lone working every day even at busy periods so you can't get upstairs. Constant stream of work that ends up where you feel swamped as you have no way of finishing it all in the time allowed but high standards are still expected to be maintained. Managers working through their lunch breaks trying to complete tasks it's so unfair.

I have been working at Shoe Zone part-time for less than a year

    Pros

25% discount, that's literally the only pro and even then I don't use it on the abysmal shoes that barely even last a month. I use my discount on bags.

    Cons

Nothing to do - constantly stuck on the shop floor, once done tagging shoes you have to tidy up. If there's anything to tidy. Then you have to just stand there IN CASE a customer comes in. Not allowed to sit down unless have a good reason. Awful management - manager picks and chooses who to punish, if she's more friendly with one person then she'll overlook anything wrong they do. However if she doesn't like someone they have to take the rap for everything. Diabolical management practice. Management also decides to talk over customers and supervisor is rude and vile to customers and colleagues also. Minimum wage - I physically can't live on minimum wage. Not enough hours - promised all the overtime (apparently there was always a lot) First 2 months I was given all the over time, then it stopped and I'm barely taking home 200 a month.... No air con - physically dripping with sweat on every shift, unsuitable working conditions especially in the summer!!!!! No security cameras etc. - shoes get stolen all the time because of this. People leave rubbish, food, shoes EVERYWHERE simply because it's ridiculously obvious there are no cameras and the management don't care - get you to clean and sort everything out.

I have been working at Shoe Zone part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

25% discount. Personally I enjoy working with the general public. The people I work with are fantastic.

    Cons

Very poor wage. Constantly cutting hours. Wanting staff to work alone at times. Upper management telling you different things so you do one thing then get told by someone else to change it. After 9 years working there I have had 8 hours a week taken from me to save money for the company, and was told to look at it as an opportunity to prove myself, because 9 years there and working alone, covering other shops and working out of hours unpaid doesn't count.
