I have been working at Shop Direct full-time for less than a year

    Pros

A warm and welcoming environment and very collaborative place to work. Incredible personal development opportunities and company very open to colleagues developing themselves. Very aware of work life balance and making this happen.

    Cons

A lot of different areas to get to know and understand how the full business works.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Shop Direct full-time

    Pros

Very kind and talented people. Everyone is encouraged to spend time on self development. Great benefits too.

    Cons

Innovation is there, just difficult to implement at times due to old systems. Should improve with the appointment of the CTO.

I worked at Shop Direct full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nothing, it's all fake. Some of the people are nice, but no one in power who can change anything

    Cons

Honestly the treatment of long serving staff is just abysmal. It's difficult to break down into bullet points how many terrible things I've seen since starting, but a good summary would be "all that glitters ain't gold". They're very clever at hiding how terrible it is for staff who actually work there, in order to being new poor saps in.

    Advice to Management

Be real. Step up. Grow a pair.

I have been working at Shop Direct full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Shop Direct values their people and they show this in numerous ways. This can be through the facilities they provide so colleagues have chance to get away from work and actually have a gym to go to, 5* restaurant or just an area to chill. Love their stance on communication and they try to engage with all colleagues at all levels. People make the place as their are so many people who are fantastic to work with. This... goes back to Shop Direct Values and culture they drive which works for me and is rare to find.

    Cons

Challenging and complex business to understand. Due to the age of the business there is baggage, but along with this comes learnings to improve the companies future.

    Advice to Management

Challenging but in a positive way.

I worked at Shop Direct full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great perks, some lovely people to work with, ambitious business, nice head office, lots to get involved in, the pay is good, head office location is a good alternative to working in city centre

    Cons

Hardly any internal opportunities so career progression is very limited, lots of corporate politics going on, they do employee surveys but never really see much action taken from them, there are some leaders who have been in the business a long time have a "my way or the high way" approach and people seem scared to speak up - I think this is team dependent though as there's definitely different cultures in different... teams, some good, some not so good The parking situation at head office is pretty poor but not much can be done about having limited space Head office is situated on one of the busiest roads in Liverpool so traffic can be a nightmare, but again this can't really be helped.

    Advice to Management

Lose the hierarchy. Allow colleagues to have an opinion without making them feel like they shouldn't give feedback, lighten up - the world won't end if one small thing goes wrong! Embrace flexible working for all employees, not just senior managers
