    Skimlinks Response

    Head of Talent

We are incredibly saddened to see this review. We deeply value our Culture - and diversity is a key part of that. We all work very hard at Skimlinks to promote a diverse and equal work place. If you look around the offices, you will see this is the case. Also two points: We have a Culture committee team in-house which organises activities that celebrate diversity, develop team building and shares cultures. This is the message from one of the members two days ago: ‘We are organising the International Food lunch!!! This is an opportunity to celebrate our diversity of 22 nationalities and share what is dear to us. In the past we had a chance to try Indian curry, Spanish tortilla, Japanese udon noodles, British and Irish cakes, Norwegian cheese and so much more.’ We work with people that come from all over the world; our 60 employees come from 22 nationalities - including in the leadership team – which has 6 nationalities represented. We value internal promotions and have many success stories of early career hires developing into senior leaders. I noticed that you are a current employee, therefore, please raise your concerns you have about diversity with the people team. This would be a confidential conversation about your concerns which we would then work with you to determine the best next steps to find a resolution. We want to continue to learn and to make Skimlinks a dynamic and inclusive place to work.

    Terrible company with no values

19 Feb 2023 - I Prefer Not to Say in London, England

    Pros

There are no pros or good reasons to join or work for Skimlinks.

    Cons

    - heavily underpaid. Salary is not competitive at all or in line with market rates. - poor work-life balance: they have 9-6pm standard working hours. No paid overtime and trust me the high expectations and work-load they set within unrealistic deadlines you will unfortunately have to work longer hours than contracted and that is a regular reoccurring theme at Skimlinks. - gimmick perks and benefits, they pride about this L&D day they offer once a month to employees to focus on their development and at first glance that seems awesome and makes you think they care about employee personal development. Well they don’t and you hardly get to use it and when you do it seems like you had to fight for it which is a joke. - no career development plan or room for progression. If your a person who doesn’t want to grow and just wants to do the same things over and over then Skimlinks is right for you. Otherwise if your driven to succeed and want to progress your career further, ask them if they have a career development plan mapped out for new hires and you will quickly learn they don’t. This is probably why they have high employee turnover due to poor pay and no progression. - micro-management and poor leadership / management. Most of the managers don’t have a clue how to lead or how to do your job so it’s ironic that they giving orders when they bunch of retards. They set unrealistic unmanageable deadlines/expectations that can only be met at the expense of you working longer hours than contracted. - Toxic culture. Best advise avoid joining this company and if you do, this should just be a short term assignment for couple years and then move to something better and fulfilling.

    Micromanagement is the word

    11 Nov 2022 - Senior Publisher Manager

    Pros

    Great colleagues, but my manager.

    Cons

My manager was a micro manager who was setting up team meetings morning and afternoon to check what each team member has set to do and has done at the end of the day. During 1:1 weekly meetings I had to share my account tracker with 60 accounts and explain what I have achieved for each account. The manager was very disrespectful and talking down to people making them feel small with the excuse that she is growing them. Because of micromanagement and manipulation the manager's results were great so she was highly regarded in the business, at others expense. I was working long hours and giving 120 percent however it was never appreciated and instead I was told I needed to perform better. When finally submitted my resignation I was told that I am cornering myself. It was a horrible experience overall and hope no one has to go through what I went through.

    Pros

    I can't think of any.

    Cons

Initially, I was not going to leave a review, however, after reading the cringe worthy, forced reviews of current employees, I felt it was time to provide another perspective from an employee who has seen the good, bad, and ugly. Let me start off by saying there was a time where this company was the golden standard for both positive and progressive corporate culture. The former CEO & Founder (Alicia) made Skimlinks a place where you felt valued and in return, you valued your work, the product, and the mission. That is the good, those were the glory days and if you scroll down and read the reviews, you will see it rings true. Moving on… Unfortunately, that path she paved was demolished once new leadership was announced. if you know, you know. Instead of making everyone feel welcomed, the US employees always seemed to be singled out by leadership and their self-serving agendas. As a former US employee, it was unfortunate to see the culture shift from being positive and progressive, to toxic and malicious. No one was safe from the unwarranted and surprise terminations. Honestly, the joke of it was you were lucky to be terminated… But, nothing compared to the blatant favoritism that went down in the US office—it was obvious, uncomfortable, and palpable. Whenever someone shared this feedback, we were told we did not possess the “mindset” they wanted. Key example of management not listening to their employees and blaming it on something as subjective as a mindset! Ironic how a company who aggregates and provides data uses “mindset” as a tool to measure employee success. If I had a dollar every time I was told I didn’t have the “right mindset” me and my mindset would be rich… So here’s the deal, Skimlinks might be able to rebound with the recent acquisition by Connexity. Sometimes an acquisition is what a company needs to grow and reform their corporate culture. I don’t want people to have the same experience I did, I want them to have a better one. There was a time I had nothing but positive things to say about Skimlinks. It’s unfortunate that I can no longer speak to those times. I hope that moving forward management doesn’t belittle employees for their own personal and unique mindset—that’s what makes a workforce diverse. Also, realize when someone has the confidence to call out favoritism, it’s usually because it’s happening and affecting them. The last thing anyone wants to do is call out favoritism and the scale in which is happens at Skimlinks is embarrassing. Bench your egos and listen to ALL of your employees’ voices—not just your favorites.

    Pros

Fantastic social culture. One of the best I have ever seen! With a small number of people in your team, you get to wear a lot of different hats, exposure to different teams and have a lot of different working experiences. Some incredibly talented people working there, from who you get to learn a lot from and develop (shame they don't stay for long enough!)

    Cons

    - Heavily underpaid. Salary is not competitive at all (however the incredible expectations of you are still held). - Total lack of investment into careers at Skimlinks: No career progression routes available (either vertically or horizontally) due to the company not investing back into it's employees. Makes you feel that the company solely see's you as a number who can easily replaced. - Poor work life balance. Very heavy workload's, often due in a short time frame (not a problem, people love a challenge) however this isn't compensated well either in terms of pay, or by the company understanding that the resources within the business don't exist and to hire more people. It feels like they say to you "either you do the work of two people, or we will find someone who will". - All the additional benefits stated (training budget, events, learning and development time) are gimmicks to take away from the fact that they pay you well below a market rate, yet have incredibly high standards.

    Pros

big office offering free toast and fruit

    Cons

You will be offered a very poor salary, however in return you will be given free food and alcohol on a daily basis. This doesn't exactly pay your rent. You will also encounter co-workers hired who match the Skimlinks or 'Skimlove' culture, which basically means you should be an arrogant hipster wannabe who looks scruffy and wears flip flops and ripped jeans to work. Senior management do not sit in a closed off private office and instead sit with all employees on the floor, this does not compensate for how unapproachable they are. Managers lack empathy, understanding and communication skills and it is a case of who can shout the loudest rather than saying something of value, so you will be disrespected by rude employees who would like to ensure their own career progression and would throw you under the bus if you get in their way. If you would like your career to go nowhere, to be humiliated, and experience a night of in-office drinking with a hint of racial bigotry, join Skimlinks.

Great people, emphasis and space for learning, and recognition where it is due

5 Jun 2019 - Anonymous Employee in London, England

    Pros

    - The people are second to none. Warm, gracious and smart. In many cases colleagues become friends and that makes for an excellent working environment day-to-day. - There is a real focus on learning & development. I put together a learning & development plans which my manager supports, champions and holds me accountable to. You get a significant individual learning budget to spend however you want: events, courses, classes etc. - And lastly you get recognised when you deserve it. There's an employee of the week, Slack channel dedicated to shouting out when people do good things, and a real focus on showing people appreciation for the hard work they do day-in-day-out.

    Cons

    - There is a fast pace of life and you do have to juggle a lot of responsibilities at once, but that also offers more opportunities for growth than you might have in other businesses - The business is really keenly focused on measurement of success, with metrics and KPIs across the business, so if you aren't the most numerically-inclined, there is a learning curve to get to grips with measuring your own performance
