I have been working at Sony PlayStation (More than a year)

    Pros

Less number of people, work is fun, not much pressure. Good for gamers or people who are ready to compromise ambition with leisure in their career.
Few really good chaps work in there and its good to converse with them.

    Cons

Do not expect anything in terms of growth if you are on a contract. Its peanuts.
Process is not transparent. Feels like you are being mugged for your contribution tothe projects.
Projects are scarce and learning is literally zero.
The workplace does not contain the appeal and feel of a game testing lab and has more strict corporate feel to it.
Canteen food is a real disappointment.
Contracted employees are not made to be felt as a part of Sony, they are not involved in team outings.
Ratio of contracted employee to permanent employee is 1:15
Dependent on other playstaion regional offices to get a project.
No direct client interaction. You interact with a QA of other region who interacts with the developer, which results in non-transparent process and zero learning.
    Logistics are outdated and slow.
    Zero female employee, all males.
The management does not take this department seriously and consider it just a time pass job.

    Advice to Management

Make the work place more exciting by changing the decoration to make everyone cheered up.
Work should be more rewarding by converting the contracted employees into permanent depending on the performance rather than experience, hence gaining loyalty of good employees.
    Canteen food should be free.
Nothing much can be done about the projects since the team dependent on other regions, this should be escalated and projects should be directly acquired from indie developers so the team can grow.
Invest more in equipments and logistics.
    Have a better gender ratio.

I have been working at Sony PlayStation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Always exposed to new and interesting topics. Plenty of opportunities to grow and learn. And the work-life balance seems very healthy overall, with a few exceptions.

    Cons

Although they've made a lot of progress in recent years, there really needs to be more coordination, communication, and better organization between all the many parts of Sony. It is very challenging to work with all the different parts of the company scattered all over the world. On the other hand, it certainly makes for plenty of fun work-related travel. This company definitely has the resources to make great things happen, but still lacks the coordination among all its disparate parts.

    Advice to Management

Make sure engineers and developers really have the resources they need to get the job done. And don't stop working to make the entire Sony empire work together more effectively.

I have been working at Sony PlayStation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Diverse management and colleagues
Better than average benefits and pay
Management has a clear focused long term goal
Unlike rest of Sony, flat organization (though its being challenged)

    Cons

    Grew a little too fast
As the company grows within Sony, we are moving away from the flat organization
HR and management has been focused on employee quantity for far too long. Too slow to invest on employee quality.

    Advice to Management

HR and management has been focused on employee quantity for far too long. Need to be faster and more methodical to invest on current employee growth. We need to resist the hierarchical structure that Tokyo is used to.

I have been working at Sony PlayStation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great corporate atmosphere, company is doing well, top leaders are visionaries. Some of the smartest people I've known.

    Cons

Some groups have been growing, which is good, but new hires in the last couple years at the director level have been poor at best. Very political with little accountability or vision. If you end up reporting to such a person, be cautious.

    Advice to Management

Execs: hold directors accountable, don't be fooled when they seem endlessly busy in meetings.

Middle management: own the work, drop the politics, or just go away. This company doesn't need you as an ankle weight.
