Pros

Beautiful store with great customers. Changing inventory is a visual delight each work day.

Cons

As long as this company has been in business, there should be no reinventing of the wheel. there's no training involved for management positions, so it's a sink or swim situation. You either have to be inquisitive enough to find files in databases that aren't well identified or accessible or chummy enough with someone who is willing to tell you what your job entails. But with the turnover rate as high as it is you'd be lucky to find someone working there more than a year. The inside joke is that you have to quit and reapply to get a raise. The owners are too much to themselves giving the impression that they don't care so much about getting to know their employees. It is rare to hear that your doing a great job from them and be compensated for it with a raise. They require you to not talk about your pay or be fired. Most people get $9 an hour and managers get $11. You might get a .25 raise IF you ask for it after a year. Everyone complains how you only get one raise even if you've worked there over 10, 15 years! New people start at a higher rate than folks who have been there longer which causes resentment. They don't increase the hourly wages for others so that they are equal. No bonuses except for the Broad St. greenhouse manager, Broad St. retail manager, Broad St. garden center manager, Florist operations manager, and Broad St. general manager. The fact that they get bonuses is a huge secret. Benefits are 5 PTO days after the 1st year, 10 after 2, and 15 after 3. No holiday pay except Christmas. There are so many blocked off time no one can take PTO that it makes out harder for those who aren't taking time off, because of low manpower. Health and dental insurance is available for a small fee. The word is that pay is so low because they provide insurance. Matching 401K is available but most people can't afford to pay into it or don't stay long enough to keep their contributions. Checks are waited for every two weeks to be handed out. No direct deposit, so everyone has to rush off to deposit their check before the bank closes. Lunches are only 30 minutes and hours are long sometimes 10 - 12 hours. Very little opportunity to move up either in position or responsibility. Can you imagine being paid $9.50 for the rest of your life?

Pros

The people who work here are phenomenal it's one big family! You fall out with people but just as you do with your siblings.

Cons

The management is the worst part of the company. Which is why there turn around is terrible. They tell you one thing then do the total opposite!

Pros

There is quite a strong comrade between the employees due to a communal suffering.

Cons

The upper management is the worst I have ever worked for. While working there I got scolded for very minor mistakes by three different members of the owning family. They are very unprofessional and rude in the way that they treat their employees and are quick to make unfair assumptions. I was inappropriately cursed out & yelled at for a minor mistake by one of the owners -- in front of customers in the store. The work conditions are not the best either, especially for such little money.
