I have been working at Sun Life full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great management. They really care for they employees, great benefits, every body is so nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend Sun Life to anyone expect to parents with young kids.

    Cons

Really bad shift planning. As a mother of 2 I cannot work until 8 PM.

    Advice to Management

Offer more flexible shift. I love Sun Life and I wish to remain working for SLF until retirement, however as a mother later shifts. It would be nice to offer part-time positions as swell.

I have been working at Sun Life full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Salary is fair, benefits good

    Cons

You are a number, not a name. Principles you are expected to adhere to in serving customers is not adhered to by management. The tools you are given to do your job are insufficient and highly in-efficient. The disappointment of your clients wares you down, management doesn’t care.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time managing your employees, be more hands on with your help and advice rather than constantly deferring responsibility on others or the employee

  4. "Systematic racism"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Current Employee - Customer Service Representative in Waterloo, ON

I have been working at Sun Life for less than a year

    Pros

Food incentives - this is really not worth, when you treat some members of team as though they are more special than others simply because of the colour of their skin.

    Cons

Systematic racism, all or 4 out 5 fellow contract staff were made permanent yesterday, all white people. Heart breaking, considering the fact that I know the rest of us are equally hard working. No diversity. How do you do this and sleep peacefully at night

    Advice to Management

No, to systematic racism. Give everyone equal opportunities. This is demoralizing.

I worked at Sun Life full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Sunlife invests in its employees with great training, compassionate coaching, and strong management. The company itself is well-respected with an outlook to the future providing excellent products and services to clients.

    Cons

You can be pigeonholed in your function while the company hires new employees for managerial type jobs, especially if you're hired to work at the call centre.

    Advice to Management

You lose good talent when you don't promote from within, pay attention to the representatives who have put in the effort and time to grow your business.

I have been working at Sun Life full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good benefits plan, easy to get into the company if you start at the call center, pay is competitive. Honestly its a good place for someone who has little or no post-secondary education as you can stick it out and move up over time.

    Cons

They like to sell you the idea that you will get training and move up the ranks when in fact it takes way too long. More skills = more pay, but you cant get more skills if theres not enough people, high turnover, bonuses are ok but don't be surprised if you do not get one. Currently pushing for a lot of sales so for me that was a con

    Advice to Management

Get people the training they need. Good talent is left on the bottom because opportunities to acknowledge skills are overlooked with a '2 year' clause to stay within call center

Benefits are good, that's pretty much it. A couple nice managers

    Cons

Awful place to work. I have chills just thinking about it. -There is not an ounce of humanity and compassion there -They don't beleive in enjoying work. You come in, take your calls and go home. -No positive attitude or encouragement, -When you have questions during calls, they rudely tell you ''you learned this in training, you should know it'' -Training was just information cramming for 2 months. -Trainer...
