I have been working at Sun Life full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    • The company is standing strong on its solid history and as a matter of fact, hiring for new opportunities during pandemic situation. • Opportunities to move between roles, even laterally. I’ve gone from a Business System Analyst to a Project Manager to a Scrum Master to an Associate Director for Digital Transformation. I’ve been given free hand to experiment and try new things. Personally, SunLife allowed me to think like an entrepreneur at every level in the company and ensure I hustle to lead anywhere in the World. I’ve also seen people moving laterally to different practices like HR, Communications, Finance etc. • Open and listening culture, open door policy to senior management. Senior Leaders are quite open to new ideas and get involved in execution and mentorship. Company focuses heavily on apt employee experience and worships diversity, inclusion and belongingness. Some of the senior leaders are advocates to this D&I program. From many recreational activities to CSR to health, sports and wellness, amazing food, transport and many amenities available via tie-ups with third parties like Doctor-on-call etc • Immense Flexibility – WFH and other company perks are given, you can lead initiatives that you feel are important in your area of tech and domain, management is very supportive • Plenty of new opportunities coming as global operating model is getting changes for some big programs. This will encompass all latest technologies, tools and processes/ methodologies • Many learning opportunities and some best-in-class training programs by trainers internal and external to the organization

    Cons

    • Pace of technology adoption could be better. My take is company follows a risk averse approach and imbibes ample governance before adopting something new. At the heart of it, this is a financial services company with a 150 year old history and some of legacy systems will take time to move on to advanced technology environment. There is work happening in the area of latest technologies like data, cloud, digital but will have its own journey to make organization wide impact.

I worked at Sun Life full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    1. Work Life Balance 2. Flexible Timings 3. Free meals 4. Nice Office 5. Good for those who want to give ample time to family .

    Cons

    1. The reporting managers are here for 12-14 years and lack basic technical skills that leaves no space for changes at ground level . They will rate you not on the basis of performance but on the basis of some absurd factors. 2.Higher Management talks about Big things in townhalls but clearly lack vision ,nothing concrete happens at the ground level. The Leadership team is not connected with people . They need to come out of cabin culture . 2. Recently, the company is experiencing high level of attrition by its old employees as well as new joinees who understand in a couple of months time about the quality of work in the company. 4 The good quality work goes to vendors like Accenture or TCS as the Canadian partners are aware of incapability of India Center . In a nutshell, the india center only gets the work which is of low quality and rejected by vendors . 5. If you stay here for 4-5 years , it really gets difficult to get another opportunity as they are very behind in terms of technologies and tools. Many people in the company are stuck for close to 12 years. 4. Beware - They may offer you better compensation w.r.t. other companies at time of hiring ,but u will land up doing something very mediocre. 5. This is a place where higher Management gets promotion every 2 years while the people who really deliver don't get vertical growth.
