Pros

- Learn more in a year than you would 3 years anywhere else. It's challenging with opportunities for advancement if you like the job/team. - Great work is the standard when you're surrounded by top, ambitious marketers all day and - Gain client-facing responsibilities and presentation within 1-2 months - Opportunity to become a manager and grow your own team in as little as 6 months. This can also be a con for those who are not interested in management, but labeling it as a pro since it's a rare career opportunity that is hard to come by for young professionals 1-2 years out of college. - Build holistic digital marketing strategy skills instead of just specializing in one platform - Young demographic for relatable, fun after-work culture - Nice office, balconies, and views of the World Trade Center - Good work stipends and benefits to offset low salary (agency salary in general is low so Superbolt's salary isn't too bad compared to other agencies) - The CEO and agency leaders make sure that the company does well during recessions so employees are able to keep their jobs

Cons

- Company says they value work-life balance, but senior members praises committed employees who are willing to put in 12 hour work days when necessary...and if you commit to that, your manager might start expecting 12 hour work days to be your standard... - You'll move up if you're all in, but I noticed that the most loyal employees were often the ones exploited into working longer hours. - Depending on who your immediate manager/boss is, there might be a toxic undertone that slowly chips away at your mental health. My manager is a good person but lacked sufficient emotional intelligence and leadership skills so I realized this wasn't the right place for me to learn management skills. - Top-down management culture: My manager was the type to always had to be right that sometimes, it became hypocritical. It felt like the things she did incorrectly was overlooked by herself but it was okay to blame me. When I voiced opinions/ideas that were contradicting, they were often shut down immediately. I realized the team dynamic was great for someone who values hierarchy and follows rigid rules, but as someone values autonomy and creative, out-of-the-box thinking, the relationship I had with my manager was not sustainable for me. - Was nice and rainbows at first but became condescending in the last few months I worked there. At first, you tell yourself that it's not personal but when my manager's tone goes from ass-kissing to someone else to immediately being defensive and condensing to me in a split second, it hard not to take it personally. - When I brought up teamwork/culture frustrations, instead of listening, my manager somehow always managed to flip the issue to highlight that I was the problem. The senior management did absolutely nothing and essentially allowed my manager free rein. Maybe I'm not fit for corporate life, but it's quite hard to build a lasting relationship when I'm constantly walking on eggshells... - Valued her time and the time of those above her way more than her associates so essentially, I was less of a person comparably - Sometimes felt like a robot used to meet seniors' agendas than actually being developed as a person or contributor to society. It's also a scaling company where you either move up or move out so there's no room to move sideways or explore a different way you'd like to contribute to the team/agency. The promotion/position is predefined and inflexible.

Thank you so much for this review. We appreciate you taking the time to write a detailed and nuanced post. On the one hand, we are happy to hear that you felt like you had a great learning experience. The growth of our team members is our first priority and we continue to build our learning and mentoring platform to continue to make Superbolt a place where people can grow professionally faster than at any other agency. On the other, we are sad to hear that you had a subpar managerial experience and that you didn’t feel that there was an avenue for you to share candid feedback with upper management. We realize that as the company continues to grow, we need to continue building our training and processes for managerial skills. This is something that we have been actively working on to better support and equip managers to ensure that everyone in the company has a managerial experience that allows them to work in an environment where they can share upwards feedback, provide new ideas and receive thoughtful feedback as well. I also wanted to address the point about working hours. . As I mentioned before, our first priority is to deliver on growth opportunities for our team. And while we definitely don’t aim to have people work outside of their working hours as a “standard”, we acknowledge that there are periods of higher intensity where we want to go the extra mile for our clients for instance. Our target is that for most of the year, people work regular working hours. And when there is a period of higher intensity, we always want to have a plan in place to get back to a steady state where the team can go back to regular hours.. As you said, we are trying to create a great working environment for people joining the company but we know that we still have areas where we need to improve. The detailed feedback you shared here and the feedback we collect from our team is what helps us continue to improve so I want to thank you again for leaving this review. Pros

Great way to expose yourself to several clients across different industries

Cons

Employees are not valued - the senior management creates an extremely toxic workforce. Everything seems like rainbows at first; however, the company only values their online image and asks employees to write reviews on Glassdoor to hide some of the true experiences from employees within the company. That said, there is no freedom for employees at a lower level to express their thinking when it comes to strategy. The senior leadership will not change their thinking for best practices (they have been using the same best practice for YEARS) even though the marketing landscape is constantly changing. They will then impose their thinking on you without allowing another POV. Your POV is your most valuable trait in the industry, and you are not encouraged to flex that at Superbolt. If there is an expedited client pitch deliverable (expedited because the senior leadership cannot create realistic timelines with clients), the associates are expected to work on the decks beyond work hours or even over national holidays. This would be fine if the leadership team was also working on these decks; however, the leadership team takes their time off and enjoys the holidays.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am sad to hear that you didn’t have a good experience at Superbolt. While I can’t speak about the exact instances where you felt like your voice wasn’t heard, we generally love it when Associates contribute ideas that can help our clients strategy. We also expect Managers and Directors to be the ones leading the client strategy and it means sometimes not selecting all the ideas that are proposed to them by Associates. That being said, if an idea is not selected, it is always expected that you will get context on why it was not the case (which maybe is what missed here). Regarding best practices, we constantly make our internal resources evolve to take into account changes in our industry. I completely agree that we work in a very fast-changing world and we strive to always be at the forefront of growth marketing best practices. While I agree that it is good to have a POV and we love people that have a proactive mindset, we are also looking for people that have humility and that will be looking to learn from people that have accumulated more experience and knowledge. Finally, regarding the working hours, we definitely don’t expect people to work over a national holiday (really sorry if that happened to you - I genuinely believe that this is extremely rare). We do have phases of higher intensity but we always want to ensure that for the majority of the time, team members work standard working hours. Thank you again for taking the time to leave a review and I wish you all the best for your career. Best, Vincent Bourzeix (CEO of Superbolt)
