    I worked at Swissport part-time

    Pros

If you love being in and around aviation, and love all things aviation, the opportunity work for Swissport is unmatched. You get to work multiple airlines and multiple functions. A lot of them depart at different times so you can work accounts that complement your schedule.

    Cons

The hours can be difficult. Sometimes, if an airplane does not depart on time you have to stick around until it departs. The pay is not the greatest either, benefits are so-so.

I worked at Swissport part-time for more than a year

    Pros

This is a great job to learn about the airline industry and to gain tons of experience dealing with a variety of different things. There are some great opportunities to learn many different airline systems and products. If you are given a permanent contract once the summer is over, you're normally trained and put on a specific airline roster, which means you get to work in quite a close-knit team. The people you... work with make the 3 am starts worthwhile. If you're joining Swissport there's no doubt you'll make amazing friends and enjoy things like team nights out/meals etc. A positive of the industry is the fact that there is usually TONS of overtime up for grabs during the summer months, and the fact you get paid 1.25x the rate of pay for OT! Ultimately I think It's a great job to gain experience for a few years in the airline industry. It's amazing to have on a CV, you deal with a lot of things - learning complicated IT systems, dealing with the general public, managing teams, dealing with confrontation, working to tight deadlines under pressure etc… People generally don’t leave regretting the time they spent here as they often leave Swissport with the experience that could lead to new opportunities including cabin crew, joining the police force, working for airlines directly and administration roles to name a few.

    Cons

Full-time contracts are VERY hard to come by, people work there years before they get close to the chance of bagging one. This is one of the reasons there is such a high turnover of staff, its not sustainable for someone to be on a 25-hour contract. It works for some people who have children etc but the nature of the industry means it’s hard for the company to be flexible. If staff were given full-time contracts,... there'd be fewer people leaving, and there would be a much more reliable workforce. If you're lucky enough you might end up with a decent shift pattern, a wage above the minimum, and a 30-hour contract; don't come expecting this as there are staff who have worked there 5+ years who would love to be in that position. Workplace morale is very very low. Unfortunately, staff think absolutely nothing of the management mostly by the way they treat the staff. Its deemed acceptable by certain managers (current staff will know exactly who) to shout at staff, belittle them, and talk to them like they’re a piece of dirt, sometimes to the point of making people cry. It’s a running “joke” between staff not to speak to management on a Monday morning - this is a genuine practice which sadly shows how unapproachable some management are. Most of the staff feel trapped and are genuinely desperate to get out. However, most people here do absolutely love the job itself and love their friends and colleagues. Another massive issue is with the company itself. There is constant cost-cutting in every single corner. Staff who leave team leader, trainer, and management positions don't get replaced and the company finds a way to scrape by without paying out another salary, this makes progression virtually impossible. Whenever staff do leave, it seems no effort whatsoever is made to find out the reasons why - the company quite frankly doesn't care. In addition to this, people who are leaving have to deal with extremely unprofessional remarks by certain other staff members including things like 'what will you do when *new company* goes bust? We'll get the last laugh when everyone applies for their jobs back at Swissport' etc
