I have been working at Teach For India full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Have been a Fellow and presently a staff. The organization is trying to solve a very pressing issue and motivation levels are high. You get some great colleagues to work with. After recent policy changes, compensation is among the best in the non-profit sector for staff. Lot of freedom in terms of project etc.

    Cons

Due to lack of impact measurement it can be disillusioning at times - you don't even know what you are working towards. The average workforce is very young and the organization takes pride in it but the immaturity shows - in terms of policies, structures and workflow.
    Nepotism and favouritism is rampant.

    Advice to Management

Focusing more on skill and domain expertise while hiring for key roles.

I have been working at Teach For India full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    1. Lots of rigorous work that translates into complex job roles leading to high professional growth.
    2. Work flexibility - the focus is on getting work done whether you get it done in office or your couch!
    3. Your work colleagues will be some of the smartest and most diverse group you will meet.
    4. The overarching focus is always on cooperation and collaboration rather than competition - builds a healthy work culture!
    5. If you show ownership and initiative you will always be rewarded!

    Cons

Like all workplaces, TFI does have some cons :

    1. Definitely need more solid systems and structures in place especially related to HR/Finance/Admin policies!
    2. There is a tendency to spend more time in planning/strategizing on how to do things rather than focusing equally on quality execution.
    3. This is not a place for the faint-hearted - if you want to do well here - you have to work hard, show initiative and be willing to go above and beyond your job role and not necessarily be someone's favourite :)

    Advice to Management

    1. Balance out the thinking vs doing!
    2. Be open to taking some audacious and bold risks to take the org to new heights!

I have been working at Teach For India full-time

    Pros

Good exposure, good culture, self-determined rigor and hours, nice networking opportunity within the education space, mostly young employees

    Cons

High expectations, a lot of work commitments, low compensation, not a standardized experience at all, but that's the nature of the job not necessarily the fault of the company
