I Could Have Named The Company Just From The Reviews

Pros

The salary and benefits package is excellent, probably the best I'll ever have in my working life. The good members of staff were outstanding, the enviromnent (around my department) was a pleasant one with an open office. If you need to speak to the person in charge, you can.

Cons

There's a fair chance you'll become addicted to the money and see your career prospects wither and die. I've read the other reviews and can only echo their sentiments, they capture my own experiences extremely accurately. All office life is there, from the very good to the very bad. Re the bullying, I know far too many chilling tales about one office tyrant in particular and always found it amazing that their behaviour isn't only tolerated but seemingly rewarded. I was reminded more than once that it was none of my business and told not to make too loud a noise. Even when the phrase 'not a career move' had ceased to carry any weight. There's an unspoken mantra, one that stems from the company's Japanese DNA, and I'll quote another manager on this one, "Know your place." Reminders are occasionally subtle, sometimes not. You have a P60 every year, do you really need an internal memo to remind you how well you're treated financially? It's entirely possible to land in a seat and basically keep it warm until you retire, and if you're an overtime hog you can make a killing in the process. Maybe that's a Pro for that sort of person, but it's a Con when you're the guy not browsing the internet all day long. If you land in the wrong post and you fancy one of those career things, hard luck, buddy. Here's another management quote on the lack of prospects, "It's dead man's shoes mate." It took less than his probabtion period for one person to work out and announce that Telehouse doesn't invest in its staff. No-one in the office at the time made an effort to argue, so you can draw your own conclusions from that little slice of Telehouse life. I'm pretty sure anyone there who's reading this now will have a pretty shrewd idea of who I am, but that's fine. At least they'll also know I'm neither of the other two (at time of writing) reviewers. And that really should send a message, but the biggest con of all is they absolutely won't listen.

Pros

Salary Pension Cant think of many other

Cons

As everyone else has said there is a big bullying problem within Telehouse. I left because of a total lack of career and training prospects. Also, plenty of ‘dead wood’ within the management team, as the salaries are so high. It’s a shame because with the backing of Japan, Telehouse could be a world leader but the old and tired management team tend not to have any innovative ideas. There is a heavy reliance on brand name and no real improvement in anything.

Bad culture

Pros

Pay and benefits Bonus Pension Some of the employees are great people to work with

Cons

Negative culture and outdated practices make it hard to move forward and progress in this company. Also the top layer of management have mostly spent their entire lives working for Telehouse and don't plan to move any time soon (too comfortable with the pay and bonuses) so those in middle management and above won't be able to move up any time soon. There's also a bullying culture, with one of the top leadership team responsible for driving away so many people and incredibly is still protected by someone higher up.
