I worked at Telstra full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

people are generally good as is the pay and conditions plenty of opportunities to move about, though most are in melbourne or sydney

    Cons

constant change - the company 'restructures' at least once a year which destabilises everyone cost cutting - company sheds staff constantly instead of trying to implement efficiencies highly focused on outsourcing/offshoring Constant system changes - new systems are often introduced before the old ones are working properly, and most times the new solutions are less capable than whatever they replaced

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Telstra for more than 5 years

    Pros

In the specific area I worked in there was exposure to different technologies. There was a lot of project work available. Good general manager, supportive & tech savvy.

    Cons

When I left - October 2019, the restructure was in full swing, there was no attempt to keep talent, it was chaos. As people were moved into the pools (tribes etc.) the link with their previous management was cut, skilled people were let go and dead wood stayed. Telstra was very siloed, with areas having their own priorities, so cross department delivery was difficult.

I worked at Telstra full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good workplace technology to help with managing flexibility and different work arrangements, ie. job share and work from home Incumbent player with lots of opportunities and can work with cutting edge tech

    Cons

Organisation is constantly undergoing restructure and management / leadership team is constantly changing roles like playing musical chairs. Not effective and no one makes decision, let alone good ones. Nothing sticks - good effort or change doesn't take traction and doesn't stick with constant management reshuffle

I worked at Telstra full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Flexible and supportive of healthy work life balance Depth of talent, experience and resourcing Shift to Agile ways of working almost complete

    Cons

Rolling rounds of restructures and redundancies has led to shifting priorities, projects that stop and start or are handed over mid-stream, and a lack a consistent focus for individuals and teams Changes have given way to acceptance of wide gaps in salary, experience and individual contribution across the same band of roles, at all levels
