What do you really want here?

      Pros

Depending on your position it may be very stable. Typically Smucker Manufacturing plants are not subject to the constant binging and purging of new hires. There are a lot of great people that work all across this company and if you put in the work and effort you can drive your career into the field you want. Smuckers has performed a purge of excess headcount recently so it shouldn't happen again, but Smuckers was very generous with those it was letting go giving them ample time to find new work while still on the payroll.

      Cons

Smuckers doesn't really know what it wants to be anymore. Lots of good operations knowledge was handed over from Proctor and Gamble however a lot of that has been expiring. Smuckers continues to look to P&G but is now adopting ideas that have already proven to be unprofitable and morale busters. This could be an effort to effect change management. If so, it's unsettling to get small glimpses

      Pros

Great culture, great benefits, incredible people.

      Cons

Easy access to amazing pb&j can be hard on the waistline. Onsite fitness center at the corporate office helps combat this.

      Pros

Medical Benefits Gym & Daycare Summer Fridays Dedicated & loyal lower ranks A handful of capable high level Directors remain but that number is quickly falling.

      Cons

Subpar Industry Compensation Lack of Decisive Leadership No true disruptive / distinctive Innovation Base brands are stale not from lack of passion from those that work on them but from lack of belief/funding to continue brand building. Too many outside consultants & agencies getting rich off Smucker instead of relying on your own people’s ideas.

      Pros

Competitive pay for the area. Employees are good people and fun to work with.

      Cons

Layoffs. In the past 6 years there have 5 rounds of layoffs. The most recent happened at a time of record sales and profits. Job security is just not there, especially for long serving employees.

Tough to be a culture "fit"

      Pros

Great people - Everybody is nice. This is a great place to get comfortable and guarantee yourself a paycheck with little to no expectations. Work/Life Balance is exceptional. The culture encourages you to take care of your family and personal self first. That is hard to find in many organizations. The company has a rich history of famous brands.

      Cons

Lack of accountability across the entire IS organization due to the core "hugs and kisses" culture of the company. Very difficult to hold people accountable for delivering work. Very inept at making decisions, often going to the highest paid person in the room. Salary is below average. You can go 30 miles north and make more money. Information Technology is not strategic at Smucker. It is there to keep the lights on. A very small pocket of the IS organization has a view of the table, certainly not a seat. Most of the time, the business is doing more IT than the IT department. Then IT gets invited to observe. You will not advance your technical acumen at this organization. Getting results and having a high technical acumen is not rewarded. You will likely get an extra $50 in your annual merit vs the person across the aisle who is a below-average performer. Where is the motivation?

The schedule- it’s 2-2-3 and you rotate from days to nights every two weeks. Supervisors don’t have any idea what is even happening on the floor. Terrible training.
