Employees are called "workhorses" because in the agency industry if you do not stand up for yourself and set boundaries between your personal and work life, you will find yourself taking on more projects and spending more time "online" and "in the office." The company is also owned (or at least partially owned) by a private equity company which me question the long-term stability of my employment since the focus was on quick growth. This company has grown so fast to manage the development of people and processes. Time and time again I saw the company choose "restructuring" over "developing" people into better versions of themselves. Over the years, the small family environment has eroded to feel just like the larger agency feel that I was trying to avoid.
