      Best place I've worked

      Pros

Employees have access to incredible training tools/videos/courses free. Extremely hard working leaders who do not sit and watch others work while they do nothing. The upper management and executives often stay as late as necessary to get a task finished, they do not go home until everyone does. Very flexible and understanding on schedules and hours. Strong family environment.

      Cons

You must have an eye for detail to succeed here.

Used to Like It Here - Education Consultant

      Pros

I have been working with TTL for a little under 2 years and have found that, if you take the time to connect with your other staff members, it will pay off in spades. Frankly, this is a company that will use you until they don't see a use for you any more. I've seen this play out in my own time there, but to myself and to countless others. I don't think that is all that unfair, why would any business feel the need to keep someone who they "think" isn't working out? Normally, that would make absolute sense. But what TTL is forgetting is that this is an educational business. If you have 1 student or 100 students, you ARE contributing to the company, both financially and in terms of free word-of-mouth advertising (if you are doing well, of course). So with that being said, the pros are: - Flexible schedule, especially for consultants. Since you essentially make your schedule for yourself. - For part-timers, they finally decided to pay an hourly rate and not make you an independent consultant. Big tax implications there. -Generally, families are thankful for your time. -Helpful coworkers make the job fun.

      Cons

Let's face it, management has no idea what they are doing. What's worse, is that it isn't just guessing what the right decision is, sometimes it looks like they are purposefully self-destructive with the company as a whole. On top of that, they spend the majority of their time trying to find things wrong with their employees, versus helping them to succeed. What does this lead too? Countless turnover, time and time again. Cons: - Big Brother mentality by upper management. Sometimes making promises on your behalf without consulting you first. - Sales first, education second. They would like you to believe the inverse. - Inability to retain staff. This includes upper management as well. If people at the top are leaving, why should people at the bottom stay? -Constant desire to expand, but most of the centers could really use more students to begin with.

One of the Worst Companies In Bay Area

Jun 24, 2016 - Full Timer in Cupertino, CA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Having incapable upper management forces you to take extra responsibilities - so you learn more..

      Cons

You will experience everything a typical disorganized company has: terrible work-life balance, micromanagement, various kinds of discrimination, language abusing, rude and professional upper management, politics, high turn over rate, unethical conduct 1. This is NOT an education company. This is purely a sales company. Education is just a tool for making big money by taking advantage of those over concerned moms and international students. If you look for a career in education, go to somewhere else. 2. If you temporary unable to find a job, this place could be a place to land. However, if you do consider your career and want to have a better life, keep looking. 3. Be aware of politics especially if you are not good at it. You never know when the back stabbing would happen. 4. They put the company owner's picture everywhere, as well as the pictures with the politicians. 5. This is a family business with no career development, although they always pretend they do. 6. They always lie to you. 7. some of the glassdoor reviews were faked by the upper-management. Read carefully on each reviews. 7. Fake Open Door policy. Once you talked your concerns over the upper management, very soon rumors about you were spread everywhere. 7. They like talking/joking on ex-employees.

Honest And Sincere Review: ThinkTank Learning Is An Amazing Company To Work For

Aug 27, 2015 - Center Manager in San Jose, CA

      Pros

I am a recent hire here at ThinkTank Learning and although I have not been here long I would say I have been here long enough to accurately state that this is a wonderful and innovative company to work for. First of all the salary is very generous and significantly higher than the industry average. Secondly, ThinkTank is in a transitional phase and is going through quite a few changes to improve operations and they are very transparent in regards to these changes. Upper Management does not withold information from employees which I feel is very respectful of them. All departments work well together and everyone is kind. Benefits are good, and the products and services offered are innovative and different from what competitors are offering. The main benefit of working here however is that you are providing actual education to students, helping them get into their dream schools, the best colleges in the world. By working here you WILL be making a positive impact in the world.

      Cons

Training is a bit improvised and unstructured however Management is aware of this and taking action to make improvements.

      Pros

Entitle salesperson as manager, admin staff as assistant manager, which help you to find a better job after quitting some teachers are very helpful

      Cons

upper management is unprofessional and unethical, urging mid-management to write positive fake review on glassdoor, using communist language to push the unwise idea Boost sales by over promise to customers, desperately making money by preying and cheating new immigrants families Poor benefit, basically no weekends and no overtime pay for full time employees

      Vice President

Thank you for your review. The upper management is determined in fighting unethical and unprofessional conducts in the company. We encourage open door communication, though we do not fake anything. This year some of our managers actually came from consultants, not salespeople. I wish you were still here to see these positive changes.

Unethical management and fundamental mismatch for Bay Area

      Dec 29, 2014 - Anonymous Employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

There are really very few pros to write about. I suppose they try their best to conform to California Employment Law.

      Cons

There are way too many cons to write about. But if I could condense it to one word, it would have to be 'dishonesty.' The company simply does not treat its employees with an ounce of good faith, and this makes it very difficult for me to recommend any person seeking employment to even consider this company for anything other than a temporary position to pay the bills while you look for something better. Upper management is largely absent. Middle management is highly motivated to maintain the status quo, which is mediocre and slow. The company operates like a traditional Chinese company, which is culturally very different from Silicon Valley startups. Rather than focus on driving efficiencies, the company emphasizes "the grind." Not only are long hours encouraged, they are tracked. Using computer monitoring software and in-office cameras, middle management tracks how much every tutor, teacher, consultant works and uses this data to find excuses to either fire employees, demote sales managers to assistants, or even withhold bonuses (despite achieving pre-set targets). As a result, employees feel the need to constantly play defense and watch their back rather than work for the benefit of the company. TTL will probably dismiss these comments as nothing more than "disgruntled employees venting" like they always do.
