    Pros

You cannot beat the level of responsibility you are responsible for as nothing in the civilian sector compares.

    Cons

The bureaucracy of the Army and Government is very hard to navigate.

I have been working at U.S. Army Healthcare full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

There will likely be overall improvements (after some 'growing pains') with the Defense Health Agency taking over the management of military hospitals and clinics. It's a very unique and exciting time to be part of military medicine. However, if you're a military member wanting to work within the hospital, those opportunities are likely to decrease as the DHA converts more staff to civilian (non-military) positions. The DOD will shift a significant portion of military members working in medical specialties to operational units like Brigade Combat Teams and Medical Brigades to support 'mission readiness.' Another benefit for military members with the Army specifically is greater control over their assignment process (what positions they take and where they take them) through the Assignment Interactive Module (AIM 2.0).

    Cons

Healthcare providers (Docs, nurses, PAs, etc) may have less interest in serving if they have to spend more time away from the hospital/clinic setting.

I worked at U.S. Army Healthcare full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very busy level 1 trauma center means the laboratory is busy as well. Microbiology Laboratory has updated analyzers and very knowledgeable staff

    Cons

Management turnaround time. Can't really help that because the Army rotates them.

    Former Employee - Clinician

I worked at U.S. Army Healthcare full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The work with soldiers, families and veterans is rewarding and well paid in comparison to civilian counterpart work.

    Cons

Change in leadership is intrinsic to military medicine. That paired with need to maximize earnings at the rate of civilian sector makes for chaos of constant changes, revolving door of "leaders" and dismissal of contributions of staff not on active duty.
