I worked at UPS Freight full-time for more than a year

    Pros

company car ( new every three years), secure job, American Express card for lunches with customers, no risk of being fired for low numbers, status of working for UPS, managers who have been in freight for a long time

    Cons

$3000 high deductible health plan, typical rep receives $6000 in commission per year, not open to new ideas, freight- declining industry, annual stock rewards not given if you leave company, company not concerned with holding on to talent, freight is not UPS's focus.

I have been working at UPS Freight full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Benefits are some of the best you'll ever receive. Big believers in preventative care so no co pays on a lot of needed procedures.

    Cons

This is by far the worst job I've ever had! I'm not even sure where to start. I suppose if you're desperate, you've got to do what you've got to do. If you're in a position to continue your search, I urge you to keep looking. Sales goals are unrealistic and ever changing. I never know from one day to the next where I need to focus because it changes almost daily. The minute you start making headway in one area, you'll need to change your focus. Goals are DAILY! Not weekly, not monthly, not quarterly, but daily. You WILL get daily brow beating if you are not where you need to be in one or more areas. You could be over 100% of goal in one area and struggling in another, and in managements eyes you are a failure. Shoot! I've been double my goal and still hounded about 1 service within that bucket that I was short on. It's ridiculous! Reporting is redundant and that's putting it mildly. One word, micromanagement. You will report the same thing, 6 different ways. The goal is to make 5 to 8 in person sales calls a day. Sounds easy right? Should be but when you're in your car all day, there is zero time to solve customer issues, put in pricing, enter info into your CRM, prepare your presentations, run quotes for customers, perform follow ups and so on. Also, they do not allow for administrative time during the week, so no half days working from home to complete administrative tasks. It's never been said to me, at least not yet, but I've heard they like to remind people that people are dying to work for UPS so they like to make threats. Last but certainly not least, the fact of the matter is, UPS FREIGHT is just not very good at what they do. They are NOT number 1 in the industry and never will be but charge like they are. Oh and when your customer has a damage claim, expect to lose that customer because it either won't get paid or will only be paid pennies on the dollar. There is so much more but you get the picture. By the way, if you don't like the idea of working on Christmas or Christmas Eve, you'll want to look elsewhere. They opened that can if worms this past holiday and it will be a reality from now on in. They volunteered us since we are salary and they don't have to pay us overtime. Yeah, they notified 400 Reps 7 days before Christmas. That went over like a fart in church.
