Work/Life Balance Is Non-Existent
17 Aug 2021 - City Carrier Assistant (CCA) in Indianapolis, INRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The wages are decent. The co-workers you suffer with everyday. Those two things are the only thing USPS has going for it.
Cons
Management, management, management! Management is unempathetic, underqualified, unintelligent, egotistical, and consistently makes impractical unreasonable demands on the carriers and clerks. In fact their only consistency is how BAD they are. This little paragraph cannot begin to describe the INEFFICIENCY with which taxpayer dollars are wasted by poor decision making! As a city carrier assistant, you WILL be the postal service's whipping boy. There is no life outside the post office. You have real life stuff happening outside work? Tough luck. You still have to show up on Sunday to deliver Amazon garbage. You still have to deliver your 8 hours of mail throughout the week in addition to whatever else the "regular" carriers that don't show up don't deliver [because they're also OVERWORKED but can't be fired because of the UNION]. OR you're on loan to another station that surprisingly HAS the same issues your home station does! You're looking at 10-12 hour days for 7 days a week. For most likely 1 year + before you even turn regular and the Hell subsides just a little bit! If you can handle being yelled at for not finishing all your extra work daily, being constantly exhausted and in pain, cold/hot weather, customers leaving dog poop in your receptacles, and just the sheer insanity and brutality for 1 year+... Then this is the job for you. You'll be paid well. But you'll spend your money... When you're dead.

You would think it’s a good job because it a federal job…NO

Good Pay Good Benefits when you become career in 2 years and Better all over when you get your own route but that can take 3 to 4 years
Cons
Horrible Absolutely no work life balance they expect you to work 10 to 12hrs a day and 6 days a week you never know when you going to get off. As a CCA you are a complete slave. Then you got to drive them Old dusty trucks that are always breaking down and the seats are uncomfortable then if you got a walking route the routes are so long. They put so much work on you the managers don’t care they will have you out there at 9 and 10 at night trying to deliver mail if you can make it for 3 years then you will be okay but I definitely wouldn’t recommend unless you overly bored with life and don’t have no obligations to nothing or no one and the pay is good but for all the mess that comes with it they should pay more. Don’t believe the hype but if you decide to pursue it GOOD LUCK TO YOU
