Hi former Software Engineer, Thank you for taking time to review Ultimate. Although it's disappointing to read your cons listed, it's great to hear you've enjoyed our fast and welcoming onboarding and our world-class product and roadmap. Regarding your cons, I reached out to our CTO, Simon Munch-Andersen, as it's important we address the engineering-specific comments head-on. Simon stated: "We are constantly innovating our hiring practices: to ensure they are inclusive, competency-based, and culture-add. As a company, we are passionate about hiring right: which means the right people, for the right roles, where they can be successful. Our bar for hiring is high and every offer we make is to someone whom we are confident in and committed to. We take people relocating seriously and international hires often begin with us as a freelance from their home countries; to de-risk the move. Unfortunately, interview processes and short freelance periods are never 100% guarantees and sometimes, after embedding further into the business, it simply might not be a match for both parties. Codifying our culture into how we lead at Ultimate is also a big focus and we are making several key investments in this area this year. We have recently launched a company-wide Ultimate Manager Training Program, which among many things, supports engineers moving into management with all the coaching and best practices of leadership. We're receiving great feedback on the program from teams whose managers have recently graduated. We are also launching our transparent Performance and Feedback Framework, enabling each engineer to clearly see what's required at each level as well as getting continuous peer and manager feedback. Together with our Career Progression Framework, it should make it transparent what's required to progress your career in the R&D team. Finally, we've recently launched our internal Engineering Handbook to clearly document how we work in R&D and how to operate our different systems, which is available immediately to all new joiners. A lot of effort is being put into making it as smooth as possible to understand what's required and to do your best work at Ultimate." Kind regards, Izzy Burman Head of Talent

Pros

Lots of trust, truly remote first and very flexible. Management is nice people, pretty much everyone is really nice. Lots of interesting technical challenges.

Cons

Engineering working under pressure and generating technical debt. PoC ending up being in production 'to be cleaned up later', but later of course doesn't come.

Pros

Some great people Really interesting product Share scheme means if they ever exit you could get paid out The pay is decent

Cons

There has been some terrible messaging around job losses at the company One day no more job cuts is the message and the next, more job cuts Leadership supposedly rejected a fund raise leading to cost cutting across the business Whilst they're smart people at the top, they don't know how to run a great company. It's time to step back and put someone external in charge to put the structure in place to take the business to unicorn status (if it's possible to get there).

Hi Former UltiMATE, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate your perspective and value the insights you've provided. We're pleased to hear you enjoyed working with some great individuals and excited that you found our share scheme interesting, as we've designed it to reward dedication generously. We acknowledge the challenges posed by recent changes and messaging, and are always strive to deliver clear, concise communications, so have put a detailed comms strategy in place moving forwards. Leadership decisions and fund-raising strategies are under constant evaluation to ensure the long-term sustainability of the company. Please get in touch if you have more thoughts here, as we are not aware of any fundraising being rejected. We welcome you to get in touch with the People team if you have further suggestions and improvements. We are always looking to iterate and improve, so your voice is welcomed in this! Thanks again and wishing you all the best for the future. Izzy Burman Head of Talent
